380 Adjustment

Post by FNARSCOT »

Anybody try a 1" brace height(front or back of string ?) on a 380 then space the bumpers to get your 2 string clearance? I already trimmed 1/3 off the ball of the mount .Shoots dead on at all ranges with scope set at 370fps w/375 gr arrow . Anybody see any gains with more Brace height? I would like to get the string off the tips of the limbs a little to smooth things out a bit.

So far the most accuracy comes from a higher braceheight. Try having about a 1/4" gap between the string and the bumpers.
Raising the braceheight also keeps more of the string from slapping the limbs near the mag tips causing some abrasion to the string. If the string gets some wax there it will greatly reduce wear as well.

Boo, thanks for the tip. I think that 90% of the noise from the 380 is the string whacking the hell out of the stops. A little more distance sure might help there, but I'm new to crossbows and looking for good tips too.

It seems to be shooting excellent as is, may be one twist or a twist and a half would get what your looking for? you can always put it back.

I just got done building a tripod/stool set up for my son to shoot off of and ran the 380 thru its paces at all yardages without a hitch .I will wait till after season to adjust anything I think. It finally got cold here .First frost last night so we will hunt hard till the freezer is full. My son has his heart set on a Buck and I would hate to "Fix" something that is working for him. I really need another 380 .We shoot a lot and we could shoot 2x as much but that's another bunch of money I don't have. T :) his Crossbow stuff is way cooler that I expected

I have to disagree. A string hitting rubber string stoppers don't emit a high pitch metallic sound and my Exomax sure doesn't sound as loud or have the same pitch as my Matrix 380.

You may be right, but you should remember that the 380 and 355 have shorter limbs under higher poundage and also a shorter string on a shorter stock. Anytime you make something shorter (guitar string, 2x4 or crossbow parts, their resonant pitch will rise. Along the same line, anytime you take something of X length and put it under more tension (guitar string or crossbow string) the pitch rises. Lastly, anytime you take X object and hit it a sound is produced. Take the same object and hit it harder and a louder sound is produced. Do all of these things and you'll get a dramatic rise in pitch and volume!!!!!

I didn't suggest this out of thin air. I took my middle finger and thumped the suppressor pad, WAY less than the string does. It makes the same whacking sound as when shot, only with a whole lot less volume and without the string/limb pitch. Then again, simple physics comes into play.........
