Broadhead Accuracy

Post by schrona1 »

Who makes the closest match to my 150 grain field points? I've tried four or five different types and the only one I have found to shoot within an inch or two of my field points are the Carbon Express "Triple Threat" 125 grain Broadheads. I want something with at least the same inch and a quarter cutting diameter, any ideas?

I use 100grn brass inserts and this allows me many more choices using 100grn broad heads. This is out of 380 Matrix

I am shooting Slick Trick 150gr Xbow Trick BHs this year and they shoot within 1" of my field points.

Question: are you seeing your BHs hit only lower than your FP or are they off in other directions too? If lower, I expect that due to drag. If other, then you probably need to look at the arrows and make some improvements.

The broad heads are all over the board, except for the Carbon Express, have to try the Boltcutters I picked up today, I am shooting the 20 inch firebolts...As I said the fieldpoints are 2 inch groups at fifty yards, so I didn't think of the bolts as being the issue?

Are you spin testing your broadheads? A little runout will definitely affect accuracy.

I struggled with broadheads until I re-fletched with 2 in. Blazers and kept my heads around an 1 in. cut . All suggested here on the forum . :D

Fixed blade broad heads catch the air and "plane" causing the arrow to fly erratically. Anything causing them to not spin exactly in line with the arrow shaft will cause them to hit all over the place. Think of the tip of the arrow moving in a 2" or 3" circle as the arrow flies instead of just spinning. The arrow is more or less spiraling toward the target. Also, the fletching needs to impart enough spin to the arrow to stabilize the BH of choice. Some things to try would be:
line the blades of the BH to the fletchings
mark the vanes and try different vanes in the channel
square the inserts of the arrows with a squaring tool
try different fletchings - I have good luck with 2" Blazers fletched with some RH helical
increase the FOC of the arrow with a heavier insert or BH
