Endless Loop String Build

Post by 8ptbuk »

I'm gonna make a few endless loop strings and would like some suggestions as to string material and strand count . I'm making these strings for my phoenix . I would like to thank xcaliber for answering my questions I had concerning the string spec's . Xcaliber is a class act in my book . He unselfishly answered anything I ask . thanks

I make all my strings out of astroflight an use 32 strands with .018 angel majesty serving for the endloops an .026 for the center an makes a fine string an no separation on any of the endloops like other strings I,ve shot. an I make all mine 36 1/2 inches long because they don,t stretch much on the small poundage bows.

I use 30 strands of dacron, but have used as few as 26 with no problems.

Certainly will !

My main goal is to find a string material that doesn't stretch as much as D97 and at the same time doesn't fall to far behind in speed . Thanks for all the replies . :D

Astroflight is very strong, very low creep, and still fast. There's very little to gain by going to a very low strand count. It's worth keeping it about 28 or more strands to maintain a decent string diameter, Personally I like to use 32-34 on my own strings.

Astroflight, XS2, 452X/Xcel and Angel Majesty are the lowest creep string material. The first 3 are low in shock and noise. Angel Majesty will show the lowest creep but is kinda rude on the shot.
Astroflight would be an excellent choice and like Dash says go for more strands. Thirty-six strands is the thickest I would go with Astroflight. The more strands the less creep.

I came on here just now to ask about building endless loop strings for my Ibex and wala, here's this thread.

All I have on hand right now is B50, Fast Flight and 450 Plus. Any information for these materials would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have no data in 450 plus so I cannot recommend a strand count. It is a combination material identical to 452X but thicker so that is the material of choice of the 3 that you have. Find out the break strength of it and I'll recommend a strand count.

Thanks for the quick comeback, Boo. The single strand break strength is 155 lbs according to Kinsey's catalog.

I know that when I build compound strings with this stuff I made them 12 strands which made them about the same diameter as 18 strands of FF.

I've used B50 on endless loop strings for the Phoenix, but one problem was serving separation in the end loops. Sometimes it wasn't too bad, but the last couple endless loop strings I made it was bad enough to worry me. Went to flemish twist to eliminate the problem. I'd use 30 strands of B50.

The factory Dynaflight string is made of 24 strands of Dynaflight which as a break strength of 110 lbs. That is a raw break strength number of 2640 lbs. Divide 2640 by the the number you provided and you have about 17 strands as strand count. 450 has less elasticity so add a few strands. Now at this point you have to consider what diameter string you want so you have to build one with lets say 24 strands serve it and see if the served string diameter is to your liking. If it were me I'd make it somewhere between the Excel diameter and the Dynaflight diameter with the fatter one being my preference.
One word of note, the fatter the string the tighter you have to make the serving. Otherwise separation becomes an issue.
