Post by Bucktail »

Can any one tell me where to find the instructions for modifying the R.E.D.S.
system for longer bumper life.

Thanks,

Put all three sets I have in a vise and with a hacksaw cut a little less than half the ball off. Then a file and smoothed the edges I cut.

I didn't need to pay a machine shop, engineer, research dept or anything to do it. :)

You can use a hacksaw, grinder, etc to remove some of the end of the ball to create an air space in there. I used a hacksaw then smoothed it up with a dremel tool.

This thread may help:

Thanks Paul!
An ounce or two here and there all add up. My Matrix 380 all dressed with scope and quiver is 1 pound lighter than the factory offering.

Lightened components are:
-Lighter scope and rings by Leupold.
-Kwikee 3 quiver with quiver mount delete.
-Lightened REDS
-Lightened stirrup with shorter mount screws.
-ADF removed
-TriggerTech unit is slightly lighter
-4 Custom High Grade Titanium screws by Ti64.com,
mainframe to riser and limb to riser. (see photo below).

Over the winter I have a few more lightening ideas to apply.

A pound off your bow is a pretty substantial diet there Norm. Way to go.
If you ever need any machining done I know a guy!

Is it possible to drill down the center of those REDS?

By creating an air pocket the rubber bumpers last longer.

Norm and J.Krug,How does the weight on a modified R.E.D.S. compare to Danny Millers "rubber baby buggy bumpers"? One of the RBBBs weighs 443.9 grains (887.8 total set). Dont know what you have got gotten the R.E.D.S. down to.

435 grains each and I plan to take off a bit more to get down to 400ish or less.
