How are you doing Mike. Hope the days are getting easier for you. Maybe a ride to the dog shelter to check out some puppies would help. I'm sure your friend would want you to. Go ahead. Mike :)

Absolutely! Words cannot express the loss between a boy and his dog. Dogs bring us down to our basic beings. They love us without condition or limit, cherish us, they are honest with us, they are forever faithful and forgiving, they show us purity in spirit and mind and they would never throw us under a bus. They are perfect beings that gift us love and companionship. They make us cry, smile and laugh. No other human has ever had all those qualities. No human will ever touch my heart like a dog can.
Soo true Boo. They just don't live anywhere near long enough.

I'm really sorry for your loss Wabi.

He was a great companion for the whole family, but starting a couple years ago he had really declined in health. First a bout with tetanus that almost took him and did leave him weak & without any spring in his step anymore. He had a heart murmur and an enlarged prostate. A few evenings ago his back leg collapsed on him. He just couldn't put any weight on it. Of course the vet wasn't in until today and when I finally got him in to be examined the diagnosis wasn't good.
He had completely separated all the ligaments and tendons in his knee joint.
The Doc said at his age and condition the most merciful treatment would just be to go ahead and end his suffering.

RIP Frisco!!!!!!!!!

One of the hardest goodby's I ever had to say, but he's at rest now.
mike,
sorry to read of your furry best friend, I know very well how you are feeling because I went thru the same diagnosis(the ligaments/tendons) with my german shepherd. RIP Frisco!!!

Thats the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life so far and i am 43. I truly understand the empty feeling in your stomach and man it sucks  I now have a 2 yr old Golden, she is not a replacement , but a reminder of what a great partner my dog is and has been to me!! Sorry to hear about your pains.

Thanks again for all the supportive comments.

Still not used to setting at the table and not hearing Frisco bark to remind me he would like for me to share. I still tear up when I think of him, but it's getting easier to go on without him.

We will probably get another dog, but I'm in hopes one just may come along and adopt our family like he did. Seems like sometimes the stray "mutts" are the best companions.

I had to put down our old dog, Cleo, by myself. The vet wasn't available to do it and she had a sudden fit and was suffering. It's going on two years now, and I still get sad, wondering if I could have held off a bit longer and she might have recovered. The vet said otherwise, but I still wonder....
