Cheek weld issue. . .

Post by offshore »

I have a Exocet 200 that I have mounted a HHA Optimizer on with the lowest set of rings possible and added the Excal Cheek Piece and I'm still not 100% content with my cheek weld. Don't get me wrong I can still touch a "sweet spot" to the stock and shoot good groups, but I can not snug down into the stock like I should or want to. Anyone else here have this issue. . .and how did you correct it? I would like to come up about an 3/4" to 1" higher on the stock. I'm thinking hard on a Agingcrossbower stock, but until I save my pennies and his lead times, I would like to remedy this problem. Any thoughts or opinions I would like to hear them. Thank you.

I have the same problem. Tends to make me cant the bow a bit if I'm not careful! I put the cheek piece on, but think I might add a bit of foam pipe insulation to it as well.

Yes Ma'am, I hear ya ! ! ! Same thing for me when I'm shooting targets past 50/60 yards. . .I tend to cant my bow a little left if I'm not paying attention. I thought about the foam pipe insulation myself, just not totally sure how I would keep it in place. I have a similar idea on a AR-15 stock and it is very comfy. The stock Strum has looks like it could be the ticket too. Let me know if the foam trick works for you. Thanks.

Made 21 stocks so far and I just had to stop and take care of a long overdue honey do list. Any married man here has to know who comes first. :shock: So grandfather clock it is;

You can add to the top of your cheekpiece. A little 'glass, a little body putty, a little paint.....It's not hard to do.Have fun with it.

Agingcrossbower,

That clock is becoming a true work of art. . .you do very nice work with wood ! ! !

Flightattendant100,

I had a fiberglass/epoxy idea in my head, but isn't the factory cheek piece made of plastic? If so, I don't think the epoxy or body filler will adhere to it. Now if I could go that route, that would be the ticket. . .a good sanding and a camo dip, I'll be set!

I had that same concern before I mounted my HHA. I guess because I was relating it to shotgun and rifle shooting. What I found is that when I related it to compound shooting principles I loved it and actually have mine mounted with medium rings. Here's my thinking: Before you draw your bow there is a whole shot process and sequence. Once I've set up my stance and established my grip, I now make target acquisition. At this point my head no longer moves as the bow (compound) is raised and drawn. Everything is already lined up perfectly. All I check is my level and focus on aiming at my spot. I transferred this process to my crossbow and found it works perfectly for me as I don't need to sink the stock deep into my cheek. I can shoulder the bow with my eyes closed, with almost no head movement, and I'm lined up perfectly. Anyway, it seems to work well for me. Sorry for being long winded, it's the archery coach coming out. Like the name says, P-aul-about-form. :wink:

Nice clock Agin! Vix, now you know why I don't use an HHA, too high for me and fiddlin w/ yours last Boofest confirmed my opinion all the more.

I prefer the 20-30-40-50-60 yd aim points in my Leupold, which would make it/one redundant.
