WMU Hunt Help..

I recently completed my Hunting Course. The plan was to hunt on a friends land in WMU 76A. Now if I'm ready the Hunting Summary correctly, it is a controlled hunt. I scroll down to the dates and allowed firearms and it seems the word "Bow" is missing. The only firearms listed are Rifle, Shotgun and Muzzleloader.

Are my eyes correct and I'm not allowed to use a Cross-Bow in this WMU ?

If it is open for firearm you can use a crossbow. It does not have to be archery only.

Thanks. I was confused because the other controlled hunts had Bow listed in the columns.

Sorry but you are getting wrong info. During controlled hunt archery season is closed, you cannot hunt with any archery tackle during controlled hunts in SW Ontario. The archery season is open in most of Province (southern Ont) from Oct 1st to Dec 31st. The only time it is closed is during controlled hunts.

Congrats on your hunting course ...

I took a look at the Ont Regs and the following is the "2014 Bows-Only Seasons - Deer" dates (Pg 67 of the 2014 Regs):

76A, 76B, 76C, 76D, 76E, 77A, 77B, 77C, 78A, 78B, 81A, 81B
Oct. 1 to Nov. 2
Nov. 8 to Nov. 30
Dec. 6 to Dec. 31

Also, there are two Controlled Hunt Draws for area 76A as follows (If you want to hunt in the Controlled you MUST enter the draw):

"Hunt Codes for the 2014 Controlled Deer Hunt Draw" (Pg 70 of the Regs):

76A* - Nov. 3 to Nov. 7 and Dec. 1 to Dec. 5 (two different draw codes) - Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzle Loader

I hunt in 76a, to make it clear you can NOT use archery equipment during the controlled hunts. Also make sure you check what the * besides the 76a means. It should tell you in the hunting regs

The * beside 76a on page 70 is as follows;

* Some Controlled Hunt Validation Tags in units marked with an asterisk (*) are valid for ANTLERED DEER ONLY.
