Question 380 or 405

Post by Peacemaker 45 »

New to forum looking to buy a new Ecalibur within the next week or two I looked at and shot both the Matrix 380 and 405 and was very impressed with both just undecided which to go with, any opinions would be appreciated. I had a Horton Hunter Supreme forever and with Hortons closure I sold the bow over the summer and am going to Excalibur, also another question has anyone tried the Carbon Express Maxima Hunters I used them for awhile and worked great not sure how they would shoot through the 380 or 405. When I get the bow am getting a couple of dozen arrows and want whats going to work best with the excalibur to get me through Ohios xbow season then I will experiment after season. Any problems with limb tips on 405 or is that just trash talking on other forums. Thanks for all input

they both good for sure.
all depending on what are your hunting plans.
the 405 is a speed killer for sure but harder to cocked, so go with your strength.
both shoot too hard for small game like rabbit, partridge and squirrel. you'll end up looking for your broken arrows instead of searching for the prize.

I like my 380 and my 330.

They are both great crossbows, as are ALL Excalibur crossbows. You can't go wrong with either one. Just try them out both and see which one fits both you and your needs/wants.

I have the M380 i bought and tricked out before the 405 was available. I love my bow but if i had to do it from the beginning I'd go with the 405. The 380 is more than enough for anything I'm just a freak for power. As far as arrows go, start off right and go straight for the Black Eagle Zombie Slayer arrows. 2"Blazers with an extreme helical (Arizona Easy Bolt) and either 92gr or 110gr brass inserts. The zombies are proven tack driver tough accurate arrows and the above setup will be deadly with either bow. Good choice going with Excalibur. You'll love it...when you get it also make sure you buy a stringing aid. I personally prefer the ones Danny Miller sells (Horizontal Archery) :D

The Carbon Express Maxima Hunters did not shoot well with 100 or 125 gr broadheads.

First of all, my attorney will be contacting you about your confusingly similar User ID.

regarding your question, both great bows. I tried both when considering an upgrade from my Exocet. I chose the 380 since the 405 was, for me, notably harder to cock.

I had no trouble dropping deer with my 310 fps (chrony) exocet, so I knew that either the 380 or the 405 would be a cannon. My 380 chrono's at 370 fps with my setup. Very happy.

Try em and get whichever you like. And change your user ID :-)

Welcome Peacemaker 45! It's my understanding that most of the issues with limb tips were on the bows that do not come with REDS and the ADF. The 380 and 405 both come equipped with them.
X2 on what Paulaboutform said! Zombies and 2" Blazers are a great combination, and a stringing aid is an absolute must-have. Arrow pullers are also a great tool to have.
I straddled the fence for a while between the 380 and 405, I went with the 380 and have been absolutely tickled with it. The speed freak in me still keeps eyeing the 405 though

What is your arra recipe for getting 370 out of the 380?

It all depends on how far into the ground you want your arrow to be when it passes thru the deer. LOL. I have a 380 and don't see the need to go to the 405 as the 380 does all I need. Heck the 330 I have does all I need. If you are going to do a lot of target shooting I think the 380 would be better than the 405 since it is easier to cock.

Sorry Peacemaker about the ID I will change it as soon as I figure out how I can do it (probably have kids try they deal with computers more than me) when I was trying to get into the forum every ID I typed in was used. Give me some time and I will get it changed. :D Thanks for all the input sounds like the 405 it is. As soon as I get some time off work driving over to Cabelas to get the 405 the BEs though I will probably have to order from them direct. I usually deal with Bowhunters Superstore in PA they dont carry them.

Only comparing the two, I would choose the Matrix 380 Xtra over the Matrix 405 Mega. Either one bring a shovel to dig out your arrows after they pass through your game.
