Post by Aushunter »

Hi guys, new to this sorta thing (forums)so if I sound a bit green please bare with me. Currently I own a axiom and over the years have added bells and whistles here and there to accommodate the hunting in do. I'm thinking of trying some FMJs bolts and are wondering how others have faired with them.

Greater penetration and definitely quiets my Matrix 355 compared to carbon or aluminum arrows. Due to extra arrow weight you lose few fps and make sure your re-zero your scope. Try FMJ and let us know. Alan

I used fmj's for one season with my compound and they were excellent. The one thing I didn't like is they still act like an aluminum arrow and are prone to bending. For that reason I got rid of them. I haven't shot them out of my M380. They may be great using the shorter shafts but I prefer all carbon like the zombies. Perfectly straight or perfectly broken. Jmo.

The FMJs are a great shaft and are quite a bit heavier than anything else. I use them to hunt hogs and buffalo because I can't find a heavier crossbow shaft - without making one myself. They are prone to bending (I have 2 like that now), but no worse than any other Al shaft. Just be careful when pulling them from a target. One thing I don't like is that Easton only makes them with the Al insert. They make a brass insert for them, but you cannot buy them with it installed and the Al ones are a PIA!!!! to get out - and then you can['t be sure you did not damage the shaft. So if you want brass inserts, my suggestion is to buy 22" shafts and cut them off to 20" and then install the bras ones yourself. If you want 22" FMJs with brass - it can be done, but it won't be fun.
