Congrats! Very cool and great story. I've never shot a sika, came close in south Texas but couldn't close the deal. Good stuff! :D

congrats!!
I've never seen a "Sitka" either.   Our SIKA are actually a miniature Japanese elk. Not to be confused with Sitka deer. A small number were released in maryland in the early 1900s and since then have established themselves in the lower few counties in marylands eastern shore and chicoteque island in Virginia. But they are cool and just finished frying some up for breakfast with some eggs. They taste great!!!! Wish they were easier to harvest because it looks like this one ain't gonna last that long in the freezer.

Thanks for the info. That is very cool. I would not know what to do if I saw one of those in the wild having never seen one before.

That's simple. You shoot it.  The stag growls like something out of a nightmare. I've heard only once in the dark last year. That sound in bone chilling.

Nice sika. The farm we lease in DE is now getting Sika deer migrating over from MD. I hope I can tag one myself someday.
Is this their mating season now? Where do you get the sika deer calls?

Yes, sika deer rut from around the last week in September through about the 3rd week of October with the peak starting around the second week of october. I bought my sika call from none other than Doug Wegfield himself. He is a sika guru and is usually at any big outdoors expo around the maryland, Delaware, Virginia area. If you google him or his call "sika seducer". His personal website will show up and you can get his call online. It's good quality and comes with a great instructional cd. I got the hunting model but his fancy ones are collectables. No difference in sound between the two.
