Ontario first day for turkey hunt ... All geared up and IBEX ready to roll. Got out first light and had a warm Fall day. Sat for cpl hours and used pot calls with no replies, so started a slow stock along bean and corn field edges.
Found numerous trails and bedding for deer, uncovered yote dens, and finally some turkey roosting tree's but zero birds in site.
Dog tired I slip under a big oak and camo'd up for late morning last chance. Wind kicked up and down came crashing one hell of tree limb, 10 feet from me .. Past winter destroyed our trees .. So point of this post is to keep an eye in the sky for weak trees as well. Give er hell out there and safe hunting.

Good luck with the Turks! I will be out this weekend for deer but will have a turkey tag on hand in case one walks by!!!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Turkey season opened yesterday here in Ohio. I sat in my stand yesterday evening and saw no deer, while the turkeys were "talking" behind my stand all evening. Close enough I could hear them "fly up" to roost for the night.
(It would be illegal for me to shoot one from that stand because I have "bait" (corn) out for the deer.)
