How many other Shift Workers or Night Shift Workers around?

Post by Book »

I see alot of folks looking around at night and figured there is alot of us around. If I am off work I am asleep at 02:00, I work rotating 12 hour shifts 5am to 5pm both ways. The schedule has a lot of off time built into it. I love the off days during the week during hunting season. Thanks Book

Book,

I don't work at all because I'm on a dissability pension but I am a "night owl". My local time zone is GMT + 10 hours and I'm typing this at 10:07pm Saturday. Sometimes when I go to bed it's starting to get light. That is why you may see me logged in when you're logged in.

Cheers,
Wombat.

I worked nights for 8 years and recently stopped about 9 months ago. It's nice to have a normal personality back again.

Some of my bosses could never understand why I was always tired. No matter how hard I tried to explain to them that if I went to work on Sunday night (technically 12:00 a.m. on Monday), I was up from Sunday morning at about 9:00 a.m. until I went home at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. Come Tuesday morning when I finished my shift I had slept, on average, about 5 hours since the time I got up on Sunday morning. Come Friday morning, I had slept for usually about 20 hours.

I then used to ask my bosses how many hours they had slept since Sunday morning. Some would get it; others would not.

I too can take a cat nap though pretty much anywhere and anytime!

I figured once I finished working the night shift my intelligence would return to normal. I don't think that's happening though! ;)

I'm a shift worker with Toronto Ambulance. It's a 12 hr shift of days and night over a 6 week cycle. LOVE IT. As mentioned earlier you have more days off and they are not restricted to the busy weekends when everyone else has time off. Within the 6 week cycle that we work we have a full 7.5 days off between the 2 sets of night shifts. Don't think I could ever go back to an 9-5 Monday to Friday schedule.

I work two 12 hour shifts + two 8 hour shifts per week. Every other weekend is a three day weekend. Every other week, I get two days off in the middle of the week. It seems to be working well. I just plan my day around a late afternoon nap.

My nephew works for the fire department. He works 7 or 8 days per month. The 8th day is always overtime. But, those are 24 hour shifts with no guarentee that your shift will be over after 24 hours(big fires, relieving other companies, etc).
