Question about the Parker Pin Point 1.25-4

I picked up a new/old stock Parker Pin Point 1.25-4 recently - just because. :) I understand the sight in procedure but the adjustable ring/base with the thumb screw for the initial 10 yard sight in is a tad heavy.

Just wondering if anyone succeeded with using just a standard set of rings without running out of adjustment? Thanks.
