offspring crossbow or a tenpoint crossbow ?

Post by onequillkid »

Didn't actually see the offspring yet but heard about how cool it looks. I did look at some tenpoint crossbows and can't imagine they look much different. I'm not buying any-thing with cams or cables but any-body that is thinking about it might as well just buy a tenpoint since they're suppose to be the best there is. Well since excaliburs are the best recurve's if you are going to buy a compound crossbow why settle ?

I'd argue that if someone buys a compound crossbow, they have already settled for less.

I agree 100%, I just wanted to read some of the replies to this subject for free entertainment. It's amazing to me how fast some of the excalibur owners and members on this forum are ready to turn there backs on recurves and go compound.

Not me!!!!

I learned my lesson a few years back. Having bought a "top of the line" flagship model from a company which is said to make the best compounds xbows. As "awesome" as it was, it wasn't for me. it sat in its case unused for several years, until I finally got rid of it.

Personally i don't think 10 pt is the best. I rate my Mission MXB320 as a better Compound crossbow. Its better in every way than a 10 pt.

I only own Excals(380 & 405) and have owned many compounds over the past 31 years. But if I bought a compound, I'd buy a Mission for a # of reasons, some of which are shared with the Excals. I doubt that I'll own another xbow than what I have for the foreseeable future, but if I do it'll likely be another Excal. But, Excal and recurves are not the only game in town. In particular, the Mission Vixenmaster owns has a whole lot going for it: size, price, wt, home tuning/string/cable replacement,noise,accuracy....

I have been tempted to pick up a very compact "wheeled" crossbow.

And it's no knock against Excalibur.

My Vix II is an awesome bow, no issues, but despite being the (smallest) of the old style bows it's still pretty "gangly".

No problem when I'm stand hunting (most often done), but when just wandering through the bush it does hang up a lot.

Looked at a Matrix 310/330 and was somewhat less than 5" less across the limbs - better, but not the answer I was looking for.

Out comes the Micro with it's 25" "wingspan" and to us that are used to recurve limbs that is "skinny".

But I compare that to a bargain basement Barnett Recruit, that sells for 300 bucks brand new, and it only has an 18" span from tip to tip - I can practically fit that in my back pocket in comparison.

So all I am saying is, for me, there is no line in the sand. And if I was looking for a "job specific" crossbow and it happened to have cams or wheel, that wouldn't stop me from buying it - regardless of who made it.

As long as my "every day, go to bow" was still my Excalibur...

Galamb, we agree completely. But remember, there are no bargain Barnetts at any price.

I want to see the results of that machine that shows all those competitor compound crossbows being blown up rigged and testing an offspring. Just curious to see how an Excal wheely bow compares...Cheers

Specs on the new Offspring will be published shortly. Some aspects of the design are still in the works but should be ready for production in the spring sometime. I'm obviously not much of a compound crossbow guy considering I have been working at Excalibur for 12 years  . But I have to say the Offspring is a nice shooting crossbow and very quiet.

Think of the Offspring as the new Paradox since that's pretty much what it is. So, if you're an Excalibur shooter that just wants to have a compound crossbow in your arsenal, this is your bow. Since its half Excalibur it wouldn't be cheating.

Thanks Peter. :D
One question though. Can you give a ballpark figure on the weight of the bow? That is the main question I am seeing asked on the forums.

I would certainly consider the purchase of one of them if'en it had Excals name on it. The other half Bowtech has very poor Customer service period n i would never lay down a dime fer it!
