For the deer season 2015 I will not apply for the antlerless tag in the wrong wmu as I did this past season. Not paying attention to detail and talking with others during the application process.

I will not bring my neighbour to my hunting properties so she can shoot the 10pt buck I've been after for a few years again. Just kidding with that one though.

As Boo has said the standing acreage of corn must be dealt with. Approx 60 acres still standing even now. The previous year there was 140 acres up till the second week of turkey season.

I will not tolerate trespassers doing whatever it is around my blind sites. Have the guy on camera but don't know what he done but no deer around 2 blind sites after he was there till the following spring. I leave the cameras up all year and no deer where caught on the cameras till spring.

Hey SEW, i here ya on the Arkansas bow season thingy. After hunting the late pre rut and then having to sit at the house to keep the woodstove going for 6 days in the middle of the rut (when the woods are CRAZY at times), keeping my concentration and focus afterwards has been hard.

On the wood stove: our package unit heat exchanger gave up the ghost after almost 15 years, so to keep the crawlspace pipes from freezing and the house warm, yours truly was stuck at home the whole week of the brutal cold snap in mid November!!!!

This coming season I vow to get out more in late October and very early November. My cameras prove that the bucks are way more active then than later on, probably because of multiplying human encounters and being locked up with does.

Take the first available shot at the largest buck of the season instead of waiting for a better shot. It did not happen.

Well a couple things , the first one, I all ready took care of a little embarrassing but this forum is for hunters to learn, so here goes, The first deer last year that I had an opportunity to shoot was at early morning ranged at 32 yards slightly quartering away I took a good aim and watched the arrow thru the scope pass under the doe at least four inches left and then the arrow banged off a feeder leg and disappear in the woods.......I sat there bow in my lap, wondering what I did wrong....Not patting my own back here but I have always been a good shot to the point were friends and family fun me some times buy calling me one shot jesse. Anyway I got back to the house shot five or six arrows into my sons target, all seemed ok but I did get one arrow a few inches low.HMMM To make a long story short I harvested not killed three deer one with a shot I thought was better. I pack up go back home I'm on the forum and the tread was about wrapping the stirrup on the crossbow. And then Waif, or wahiba? can't remember said to check your clearance of your vanes by taking off the field point sliding your arrow under the string rotate your shaft and BAM!!!!! I had wrapped my stirrup before I went hunting with paracord... and my vanes were hitting the cord every shot.......... not much but it don't take much. I hope no one fell a sleep .. But that was a lesson learned HERE.. on this forum from members who know...Love it!! I'll tell ya about # 2 later after some coffee...............

Thanks to the generosity of some dear friends TPM and I now have trail cams. We're looking forward to being better able to monitor deer travel and establish patterns.

The local spot we hunt is small and doesn't usually hold deer, but they do travel through. Having the trail cams will help us know how to more effectively bait.

It's a whole new world for us!

Thank you boo, just added to my home page. Its my first time ever. Going to get the soil test for pH and for fertilizer. Have you ever done chicory? They say it'd a hardy plant for browsing. And will last good for late spring into fall season. :D

did ok with my cross bow.. but I took a bad shot with my rifle that I wish i could do over. shots should be broadside or quartered away. I shot a buck at close range quartered toward me , hit him in the shoulder, bullet and bone explodes..lost a lot of meat ..ill be more selective next time ..I had no need to hurry the shot just got dumb for a moment

When you're at Boofest next, walk south along my west fence line and at the bottom of the hill there will be a patch of chicory. Near that patch you'll see where I ran over it with a rotary cultivator. It's also spreading out and seems to stand it's own ground with the weeds. So yes it seems hardy and maybe a bit invasive.

I've got two things I'm shooting for next year. I don't own land but I've been very blessed to have nearly exclusive access to a farm to hunt. Most would consider it marginal hunting land, but if they put some time in on the property they'd realize it a great spot. I've been very luck on this farm. The only down side is the wind. The wind has to be out of the west or northwest to hunt there. I made the mistake of scheduling time for hunting only to have the wind be out of the east nearly every time. I'm going to try and have a more flexible schedule for hunting this coming season.

The second thing is to stop playing with my crossbows during the season. Switching scopes and arrows and having to re-adjust isn't the smartest idea I've had.

Well, this spring I think I planted my deer to deep, cuz when the rain came, most of them drowned, their noses were barely sticking out of the ground, I KILLED them and didn't have a chance to HARVEST them, so, this spring we'll have to try again and not plant them so deep....

This is how I screwed up. I will definitely carry it in my head until somebody shows me this deer in the back of a truck.

Makes me SICK to think this dude is walking in front of my camera. I've never ever even seen a deer this big in person. I have nightmares about seeing this beast.
