Sounds good and all until it slips... brand new 355, freezing cold, dark, took the weight off with the cocking rope then pulled the trigger....

Bam, flew out of my hand, cracked the cocking handle as it whipped against the scope and stock body and put a dent in the underside of the scope. Felt like I lost my fingers, scared the crap out of me as well. That was probably the 50th time I've uncocked it. All it took was that one time, at the end of a day's hunting in the cold to do all that damage.

From now on I'll be using a decocking arrow. At least that way I'm sure it won't happen again. Decocking by hand imo is now just to risky for the bow. Even if you get away with it 999% of the time all it takes is that one time. Given the cost of the scope and bow. I'm not risking it again.

Bow still works, in case you're wondering. Scope seems fine as well, other then the small dent.

Yup thats all it takes is one time on operator error. I spect it can happen if'en yer hands be bad cold. Heck i would have jus shot n arrow then. I seem to have plenty of them that i have put the hurt on :)

Ha..................the only pilot error I have commited lately is forgetting to push in the ADF before squeezing the trigger. A sort of no-consequence error but it still makes you want to kick yourself in the butt for not following the checklist. Nothing like caging the wrong engine though

I was very lucky in that my son was close by and he was able to climb up and get the arrow out while I was holding the cocking rope. Remember to ALWAYS check what you are doing.
JUST THE THOUGHT OF THIS TERRIFIES ME!!! You were so lucky, what would you have done if you were alone? I just built an Exomax and my arrows are cut at
22 1/4" so with a bh or fp my foot won't fit in the stirrup. I'll sacrifice some speed for some peace of mind.

I can uncock it no problem......and I am a weakling :)

I am just VERY careful to DOUBLE check the hooks are on properly and I have a solid grip. You can never be too careful.

X2 One of the selling points for me was I don't have to fool with carrying around a discharge arrow and or target.
I always cock and decock mine in the stand ..the only thing I ever did wrong was forgot to take the arrow out once I kind of double check that part now
