0.001 vs 0.003 arrows

Post by coolhl »

How many here could tell the difference in performance of the two, with and without a bench, shooting 40 yds or less????

I must say I have shot both from horizontal and crossbow, couldn't tell the difference to many variables in the outside world, wind and other elements,. But I guess if you were in a indoor climate controlled range trying to thread a needle you could probably tell the difference, they both are deadly

Norm it's .001 and .003. .001 being 1/1000 of an inch. The difference between .001 and .003 is 2/1000 of an inch.........or about the thickness of a sheet of paper.

When these are sorted at the factory, anything over .001" goes to the .003", anything over that is not sold. Many of the .003" are not that exhibiting that much runout! I have many, many hours shooting both, and I'm not that good of a shot in any conditions to notice a difference.

The average human hair is .006. I always get a chuckle out of folks that have huge accuracy claims when buying the "straighter" arrows!

I believe i read most of the runout occurs near the ends of the shaft most shafts are sold as 20 or longer so shortening them you may end up with straighter shafts in theory no?

great question Newbie! i was wondering myself. i have to cut some arrows down for my Micro. am i better off ordering and cutting down 22 inch .003 or buying 18 inch .003 to cut down. i also picked up some brass inserts on ebay at 110 grains. they are .300 size. seller has them in bulk 50-100 500 quantity. they are made for Horton carbon shafts.guessing they should work fine.

I,ve shot both together many times an with both shot on the spine mark I could see no difference out to 80 yds. but I buy the .001 for thinking I have a better arrow
