New avatar this years buck

Post by Pa.hunter »

Just picked up this years buck from the taxidermist yesterday. I think he did a excellent job on the semi-sneak mount. I took this guy the second to the last week of our archery season during the rut chasing a doe and grunting like crazy. I took him with my 380 at 45.2 yards with 100gr. spitfire. I was very confident in the shot and it actually dropped him in his tracks where he stood. I could not believe my eyes. Lungs, heart and finally lodged in the the front shoulder which it crushed. He broke the bee off from thrashing around but the spitfire stayed in one piece even after having to pry it out of the shoulder bone when we butchered him. One blade bent a little could be re used with new blades. I have archery hunted many years and taken many deer this is my personal biggest buck I have taken. This also is the first with the xbow and the first with the 380. To say I am impressed with the power of the 380 is a understatement. I would have never taken a shot like this with my old Mathews. But I practiced it many times all summer long and had all the confidence in the world of my Excalibur.

Think I'd make that an avatar also. Love the 380 and 405!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. He is probably the trophy of my life time. I put many many hours into hunting this guy. I left some lesser bucks walk throughout the season hoping to get a chance at this guy. Which was tough for me because I normally take the first legal one that gets close enough. I knew this guy was around but he was very nocturnal so I knew my best shot at him would be during the rut. I always take vacation the last 2 weeks of our archery season which is during the rut here. Well everything managed to come together and the magic happened. I actually kissed my 380 when he dropped

Hey Normous I actually don't have the 405 yet but it's ordered should be here this week. But the VX-R is sitting here in the box waiting for it.

Just wait till you experience the flat shooting M405 topped with that lighting masterpiece from Leupold. I know the 405 wowed me in a hunting environment this past deer season and with that dream buck now on your wall no future deer are safe.

100gr. mechanical this is the first deer I took with one. I did a lot of testing with some other mechanicals and this is the one I chose to hunt with. Like I said it bent one blade which you could replace and reuse it. When I hit the buck it sounded like you busted a 2x4 in half made one heck of a crack. I also took a doe late season with one double lung she went maybe 40 or 50 yards and again you couls reuse the broadhead. Very tough head. I just got some FOCs to test for maybe next season.

I have to say I was very intrigued with the new little 335. I fondled one at a local archery shop and it was very sweet. But after this hunting season I decided there was only one direction to go. I like my single dot scope and flat shooting.
