G5 Montec 100grain with a 380 Matrix???

Post by hazesrus »

This is going to be my first year using a crossbow and I have a bunch of questions but this will be the first. I have several brand new G5 Montec broadheads, 100grains and I was wondering if I could use these with my Matrix 380?? I just bought these last year and I would really like to use them if possible. Any advice, comments, suggestions on other broadheads that work would be greatly appreciated! :?

Assuming you're using the stock arrows, you'd be around 350 grains which is the bare minimum for all Excalibur bows. I have tried that exact setup from a 380 and accuracy wasn't the best. Either get some new arrows, I'd recommend 18" Black Eagle Zombies and go with a 92gr or 110gr brass insert, or remove the stock aluminum inserts and get heavier brass inserts.

I shoot the G5s in 100 grain from my M330 using 18" Black Eagle Executioners. They shoot great out to 40 yards which is my max range for deer.

X-2 on what Racking up points said, you are better off in the long run to switch to black eagle arrows with a brass insert 92 or 110 grain, That way your f.o.c. will be better along with accuracy. You can stay with the diablo arrows and replace the inserts, but the zombies are just a much better way to go. check out South shore archery you can get a half doz arrows made your way by a real great arrow maker 50 to 60 bucks, and have piece of mind, knowing at least when arrows are concerned your covered........

Try them, then follow racking up points advise.........It's not so much the xbow you use them in as it is the arrows......

Fortunately I bought this from someone who barely used it and I need to buy arrows, what's the best setup for a 380?

With my 380 and using Montecs, I had a lot of success with:
.001, 18" zombies
92gr brass insert
100gr Montecs
Lumenocks
Total weight of 400gr, ridiculously accurate, hard-hitting. I strongly recommend the zombies over the executioners because they are 25% stiffer and only 0.1 gpi heavier.
