A poulin from Canadain Tire would likely be fine. I have one, and it works good. But...... the best in my mind is STILH made in Gremany. There's all different sizes and models. These babies are a lifetime saw, you'll never, never have to replace it. The one I have is about 50cc, its a 026 model, I think there called something different now. Its smooth running , always starts, great balance, see through gas tank, automatic chain oiler, it'll easily cut 6-10 cords of wood before you have to sharpen the chain, anti-kick back feature, and much more. They come on sale in the spring and fall, with a package. The chain saw, 2 spare chains, a litre of bar oil, 6 small bottles of gas mixture oil, a hat, or skip the chains and get a carrying case. This package is about $600.00 give or take. Its a saw that you can pass down to your kids.

Hope this helps.

Ooop,

Looks like GreyOwl beat be me to the punch.

Stihl and Husqvarna are the best chainsaws available. I did some research before buying a Husky 350. 18" blade, 3.1 hp, light as a feather. It has all the bells and whistles as the Stihls.

These two makes combine for over 80% of the saws used by commercial loggers. They are nearly equal in sales, ie. 40% vs. 40%.

You can't go wrong with either make.

Signing in is a good idea. Huskies are good also, I had one previously and sold it to a guy at work. It was a smaller one, but I tell you, it never broke down either. These saws are made in Sweden, their about the same price as Stihl and every bit as good.

Stihl

I have Husqvarna and Stihl equipment for managing my lot. Both good equipment, with the edge being given to Stihl.

Unfortunately, my Husqvarna dealer in Carp ON provides poor to non-existent support (and this is nice statement). I have identified and document the issue with our regional Husqvarna network.

Many, but not all, of the Stihl's in North America are now made in Virgina (or is it West Virgina).

So, giving Stihl the slight advantage in equipment and having a great dealer, it would be Stihl.

For lot management, I also have a Stihl pole pruner chainsaw ... nice tool!

Stihl is the way to go......You may pay a little more for it but the old saying goes here "you pay for what you get".

I seldom use one but I do own Stihl. We have a local dealer who sells & services them, but if I care for them they need little service. I use Stihl for all the lawn care tools if they are available (chainsaw, weedeater, etc.)

I only use a chainsaw occasionally and for light duty.

I picked up a 16" Poulan on sale brand new at CTC last week for $149.00 which I think was a very good price.

E&B ?

Ontario Bow Hunter,

For Stihl, I use Saw City in Carelton Place and quite happy with them.

The Carp dealer is Husqvarna, Toro and some others, and cannot say anything positive about the post-sales support.

What product lines are at E&B?

Thank you,
Raspberry

I've used them all.

Stihl's are great......except in warm weather.
Huskies on the hand work flawlessly....hot or cold weather.

I have 2 Stihl 036 saws. The best saws I've ever owned. They're in use every day all winter and have been trouble free. You don't need a big heavy powerful saw if they are kept sharp and clean.
