Pretty good #'s for y new 355 !

Post by L. E. Carroll »

I had a little time yesterday so I took the bow with xcalibers new FF string and various arrow weight combinations to a new shop who is a Parker Xbow dealer with a good cronograph. However, I wish their target had been better  I had to stop after 3 shots as arrows were burried up to and partially over the fletching and the lighest combo up to just where I could still see the nock.

Here's what I got 20" Excal Diablo with 100 for total wt. of 360 gns.--------361 fps

17" Zombie Slayer with 100 up front for a total wt. of 388 gns.-------352 fps :D

Heaviest was a 16" FMJ with 100 up front for a toatal of 437 gns.-----339 fps

I'm very happy with these results and think they will get the job done, using the lighter 361 gn ones for possible extended ranges up to 60 yards hunting Mule Deer in the wider open spaces of Eastern WA. The 17" Zombies at 352 fps should be good to go on elk up to right at 40 yards with a solid rest using what ever I can find near by.

Speaking of weight vs speed, I got the best penetration with the 20" Diablos @ 360 gns and 361 fps,,,,, That surprised me as I expected the heavier shafts to out penetrate lighter the ligher ones. :?: Possibly the Diablo hit a softer spot on the bale? I do know it was burried to the back of the nock....way hard to get out and that I did not want to dig it out again.

Good numbers indeed. I got to hit the chronograph soon with both of my babies!

Excellent results, I would be using the 437gr FMJ @ 340 fps, if the accuracy is there, as there is no appreciable difference in trajectories out to 50 or 60 yards with the lighter, but am sure energy, noise, obstacles, wind and the elements you will be hunting in in will all favor the FMJ's. Not to mention I would bet for a 10 shot string they will be the most consistent.

Your absolutely right.... the FMJ's fly very well and group as tightly as the Zombie Slayers at about any reasonable range... They are a great option... Going to perhaps re-think this some.

I would use the 17" Zombies, and if you want a bit more weight, put the 125 grain heads on! I'm just a big fan of those Zombies!

I'm shooting 18 inch Zombies with 125 gr heads out of the Nightmare and they're grouping and shooting great. Sounds like any combination you have there will work.
