Bow too loud?

Post by lightningbolt »

I have read a "hundred" posts on using ear plugs as the only way to reduce the sound of the bow and have to call BS. I have a Matrix 330 first I put closed cell foam and silicone in the aluminum rail and noticed little change, next I put hockey stick tape on the stirrup and again little noticeable change, Putting on a new Excal Matrix string, Danny Miller's bumpers, and going from a 100 grain tip to a 150 on the Diablo bolts made a huge difference in both volume and tone. No earplugs needed. :D

Good to know you're happy. Quiet is after the shot!

Years ago, on my first Exomax, I foamed the voids in the stock and couldn't tell much diff. in noise, then I went to a Flemish string with cat whiskers, again maybe a little help but not much. I got a wood stock, maybe a little but not much noise reduction. Then a set of strings stops, and again not much difference. So I'm kinda bummed. Then I shot a stock bow..... WOW mine was much quieter. All the little things had added up to be quite a reduction in noise. No one trick made much difference, but as a whole, they made quite a bit. :D Don't you love it when a plan comes together? :D

My deer must be deaf, they just stand there and take the noise with no problem.

I know the deer don't care about the noise but I shoot better with a quiet bow. In addition to bumpers, flemish string and stirrup wrap I found the Excal Brake Pads to work quite well. My Micro and 355 are much quieter and more fun to shoot.

Dittos LB. Did all the same to my M330. Made a big difference. Fine bow I must say.

The work on your bow sounds like a winner to me. SMILE. I'm sure you made a big difference in the noise they make...
