String Height?

Post by Moose Milk »

New to this forum and crossbow shooting. I have recently acquired a used Equinox that has "air brakes" (I think that is what they are called.) :? They are rubber nobs that the string rests upon before cocking. Is there any adjustments to these things? When I look along the string it slightly bends on one of the brakes more than the other, is this a problem? How much should the string pressure be on the brake when at rest? Should I tighten the string so it just touches?
Also are the brake pads that are applied to the limbs any good? do they reduce noise, velocity? Are they worth buying?

welcome to the forums MM.
first thing your going to need is a stringing rope. your string needs to be 3/16"-1/4" off the bumpers. do NOT shoot your bow until you have it adjusted.
this is called adjusting the brace height.

read this thread and watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zWUFfO6UqU

Good advice right there. The string is resting on the string suppressors. Bumpers we call them. To shorten the string, and brace height, turn the string counter clock wise while holding either end in your hand looking towards the other end of the string, does not matter which side, it same / same!!

Welcome. :D Answers already given. A stringing aid allows you to change your string, adjust your brace height (this is a big deal) or break down/collapse your bow. It is used in conjunction with the cocking aid.

Am I one of the lucky ones who's brace height was pretty much dead on when I received my bow?

I was at Bass Pro the other day and every Excalibur they had, had the string digging into the bumpers... I mean DIGGING into them...

Thanks for the tips, tried to open the link to youtube but had no luck. :(
I did tighten the string up and it now is sitting a shade under 1/4"from the bumpers.
It was suggested that I fill out a profile, I will but can't seem to find where to do that. Help with that would be appreciated. :D
