I will be going bear hunting this upcoming season and thought of trying the Excal boltcutters a whirl. 150 grains will prob give me enough penetration

In your other post, you said you have a Micro, if so, you will not need 150gr to have "enough penetration" , that is, unless you want to bury your arrow completely into the ground.

IF you keep your shot placement correct, correct arrow weight (total weight) with any quality head, you should get a pass through. If you hit any major bone structure, it will not matter, the arrow will be stopped.

Thanks for the info Tom, I'm new to archery hunting and really only have info given to me by BPS and Cabelas. Any logical real word experience/info helps.

Personally I have never felt that over penetration was a negative issue --- two holes are better than one ---- esp on bears.

I have taken a few wiith archery gear... My best advice is to get a diagram of a bears bone structure and do your best to avoid heavy bones... Try to get him quartering away"... shoot behind the shoulder while actually aiming at the off shoulder and mid way up the body.

I have had best luck with a Very sharp 3 blade "Cut on Contact" broadhead with Fixed blades... I have got great permormance from VPA broadheads but am leaning more towards the 125 gn G5 Montecs now that I have made the switch to Excal. Crossbows.

Black bears are not hard to kill, any sharp broadheads in the right place will do the trick. My favourite for xbow is G5 Striker, my 380 loves them so that helps.

Bears are thin skinned and not hard to penetrate. As mentioned, shot placement is paramount. I also like the slight quartering away shot aiming for the off side. You've got a lot of great broadhead options. Slick tricks, qad exodus, ramcats, magnus stingers, ..........
