I'm really glad Peter put out the message he did. It confirmed all of the thoughts I had and was trying to explain on another forum and in other posts.

The uptick is sales pushed the vendors to deliver and revealed a weakness in the process, which allowed Excalibur to improve the process.

The resulting limb issues revealed a weakness in tracking components to bows, which allowed Excalibur to improve that as well.

The whole mess had them take another hard look at the design, which resulted in a new more forgiving design with very similar performance.

A tough season to go through, no doubt, but I see Excalibur as coming out better for having gone through it.

I have never doubted the integrity of the designs, but one can easily see how a forward swept riser will more "concentrate" the stress on a smaller section of the limb versus a swept back riser. But still, as Paul said, with the improved limb process, this design should still provide years and years of performance.

Thanks again, Peter for sharing what you did.

Paul, I'm with you. If I could buy a 405 dirt cheap, I'd buy it. Meantime, I'm stuck with my 408.

The riser on the new Bulldog has a 6 degree backwards sweep to change the angle on the limbs and allowing it to bend more naturally and remove some stress.

So, although we had to say good-bye to the beloved 405, the Bulldog 400 is an awesome replacement and I think those who loved the 405 will warm up to the new Bulldog with no problem.

is it recommended to get this new riser for the Matrix 405 if there is too much stress on the limbs? owning a Matrix 405 already i dont think im gonna warm up to another 1100$ crossbow. my Micro saved the day this year. but even that had new limbs put on. hope the limbs are better in years to come. im sitting out this year. no new Excaliburs for me. :|

It would slow the bow down. They had to add 2 inches of stroke to make up the speed.
I would shoot it as is since they figured out the limb issues.

My question of the day is are my new limbs and my spare limbs from a good batch or bad batch????
The new ones , I mounted and left cocked for 7 days with no issues. But my spares are unknown. The spare set are from early November and appear to have a different coating than past limbs it's almost cloth like the appearance to coating on limbs???

I wrote an E-Mail yesterday to Excalibar about my CONCERNS. And here is the reply from them. And also my E-Mail to them.

Message:
I see you took the Matrix 405 off your site. I just brought mine 1/9/2016 New from Sportsmen Den in Ohio.Does that mean i will have problems getting parts if it go,s bad.If the 405s are bad . I think your company should trade out my 405 for a New Bulldog 400. I have my Receipt showing when an how much I payed for it.1200$ is alot of money to me dont know about you guys. But I want confidence when I go in the woods... NOT broken limb,s. I have only shot this bow 3 times. And worried to death about limbs breaking an string whipping my face.

Message body
The Matrix 405s are not "bad" we have just discontinued them for 2016. Every year when we come out with new crossbows, there are some from our previous product line than are no longer made. Your crossbow does still carry the lifetime warranty, so, in the event that anything were to happen, we would still take care of it for you.

Check this youtube vid out. Its done by one of there vendors , Listen to what he says about the 400 taking the place of the problematic 405s. I just got mine on the 9th Jan 2016. I want them to take my 405 back an give me a 400. And they can keep the extra money i paid for the 405. SOUNDS VERY FAIR TO ME.

Tell the place you bought it from that you want a refund. Probably the only way it will happen.

I think if you make a big enough stink over it they should exchange the bow you bought for the bulldog, especially since you bought it so recently. I would try the store you bought it from first then keep contacting Excalibur about your concern. They should at least give you some kind of option for exchanging the bows!
Good luck

Welcome aboard and Congrats a good bow! 2-405's, 2-380's, here and have owned a 330 and soon to be 355, both them 380's have probably been shot more than most will ever shoot their bows in a lifetime, I am sure over 1000 shots between them, and so far,,,,, they are all tack drivers and continue to fill my freezer every year! The 405 has over 100 hours cocked time on it and over 70 shots,, not a problem!!

I think expecting an exchange for a new bow is asking a little much,,, especially with a bow that has been trouble free,,,,,,,You have a great bow and 2 1/2 weeks to use it, then a whole 7 months to make sure it is proven by for next season. Don't hang it up and forget it,,, shoot it, by next season your worries should be over,,,,

I cannot really see how Excalibur should exchange the bows. The bow was purchased on January 9th, the new ones were already shown at ATA.
I have a 405 that I have shot quite a few times and have never had even a small issue. Well other than one bolt going through my cheap target and losing it. Power is the name of the game when it comes to the 405. It is a great weapon.
