Strings so many options

Post by mingle »

Well Ive been shooting excaliburs for about 4yrs,I get most of my knowledge form this forum. So the question is what string is the best?I have a Flemish string on my phoenix and the stock string on my 330 matrix. The Flemish came from mr miller.Im looking for speed and durability .I was told the the Flemish on the matrix will not give you anymore speed.Something that wont stretch to much.I here about rhino and those other one's it just seems a little confusing.Ive read where some recommend a 40 strand string,Hey I don't know its all greek to me.Could someone please educate me on this. THXS in advance

This is jus one of many opinions you will get. There is around 14-16 string materials by Brownell n BCY. They will mostly use one blend or 2 & call it a name. I use BCY mostly, flemish is a style & some stretch more than others. I find the Force 10 will set up fairly quickly wid short stretchin period. The more strand count the slower the speed as they weigh more. Its a very dependable material, i like it.

I used to like Force 10, but have tried other materials over the last two years or so. The end weight of the string will pretty much determine speed, and most materials offer little difference in speeds I have found. All materials offer advantages in one area, or another, and the end results in terms of stretch, and vibration absorbing abilities. I would suggest you PM some string makers, and get their "recipe" and opinions. I would also suggest trying a few different types until you find one that fits your needs all the way around. There are a number of folks here that make strings, and you should do well with any one of them. Between Flemish & Endless Loop, there is only one choice for me on any of my Crossbows!

You should stick with the endless loop till you have a good routine with your crossbow. Endless loop is more forgiving on your limbs in case you have a dryfire. Wecome to the forum! Shoot safe and keep your thumb below the rail.

I would also recommend installing the ADF if you use a flemish twist string.

Flemish is not any worse than Endlees Loop string, it is the materials used that could impart damage to your bow, and that went away with the newer models. On the Mag Tip models, they came standard with Dacron Endless Loop strings that were very forgiving in case of a dry fire, the Matrix, and Micro series all come standard with performance materials. I use several materials for different applications.

I got 2 strings 36 strand from VM. Years ago I bought heavy inserts from friend in italy to make my arrows like 500 grs..Funny I just found letter from him back in early 2000 saying hello and here is your inserts..Back then he was testing strings and I think he tested BOO strings too not sure remember name boo...Anyhow he said to me 36 strand back then was all around best of course 28 was faster and 40 slower but 36 was his pick....Most of stringmakers here have new materials etc so things could change but back then 36 was his pick..
