First deer
Took my first deer Sunday 31 Oct. I used my Exomag.
I was on the ground sitting at the base of a tree. I wasn't really confident of my position as the bush was pretty open. My line of thought was I was just out for a Sunday evening sit in the bush for the experience.
After about an hour I slowly turned my head to the left, and 25 yds directly on my left was a young buck about 2yrs old. ( The wind was directly in my face).
My intention was not to take a buck as I wanted to hunt in another MNU.
I thought he would sus me out in short order. I figured I would just sit there and see how long he would take.
He walked diagonally down in front of me and when he was at about 10o'clock from me came round a tree and faced me at about 8yds.
I didn't even blink, just stared at him.
He continued his diagonal walk to about 17 yds in front of me, stopped and stared right at me again.I still hadn't moved a muscle.
It was about this time I decided to take him if I could get the bow up without him seeing. He stared right at me again. As soon as he put his head down I moved the bow, froze as he looked again. It took 3 moves to get the bow from my lap to my shoulder, the final move as he crossed behind a tree about 4" diameter.
I got the cross hairs on where I wanted to hit him, he was slightly quartering away now still at about 17 yds.
As I slipped the safety off he looked back over his shoulder at me, I thought he had heard me, but he put his head down. As he did this I pulled the trigger.
He took off, ran around me and disappeared behind me.
I walked over to see if I could see my arrow, couldn't see it.
Not having shot a deer before I wasn't sure of what to expect.
I was begining to think I had muffed the shot and he was running around with an arrow in his backside.
I thought if thats the case I should recock and go and look for him.
I walked about 50 to 60 yds to the edge of the bush in the direction he ran. Looked to my left along the bush, nothing.Scanned the field around to my right to the bush. There he was just out of the bush stone dead.
I walked up to him, the shot was right where I intended.
Called over to My buddy Vern in the bush across the field. He came over, congratulated me on my first deer. I think he was a bit amazed when I told him the story, as to how a rookie could pull that one off.
Then the fun began, my first lesson in surgery.
I was going to post a pic,but can't figure out how to do it.[/img]

Congrats on your first deer. For a new hunter, you did good. A buck on the ground with a x-bow is not easy. You made it sound like a pro. Good eats!!!

Isis,
Congratulations on your first deer, and your first buck. That's one very intense experience to wait for a shot like that. Well done. There's nothing wrong with a young buck either. Mighty good meat and you never know, that might be the best deer you get within range all season. There's no telling. Now that you've broken the ice you can use a doe tag. Go get 'em.

Thanks for the congrats guys.
To those of you who asked, I found my bolt Tues morning while passing through the area on the shot gun hunt.
It was about 12" down in the bank of a drainage ditch about 5yds on from the deer.
