REDS, dbKiller, or Baby Bumpers? Plus vs. Minus?

Post by Seezer »

New to Forum, and enjoying conversations. Bought a Matrix 355 last summer, and just received Vixen ll for my daughter. Being a long time bow hunter, I've been researching ways to lessen the TWANG. I do NOT have expectations to ever make it "quiet." I do some urban hunting, and one anti-hunter neighbor doesn't need to be reminded of my private land rights and neighbors that let me hunt. (Keep the peace.) I've seen plenty from "don't even try" to home made tricks. On Matrix 355 bumpers, what's biggest "Bang for the Buck?" REDs vs Air Brakes? On bumpers types, best durability? Where/How to order? Price with shipping? (All these TLAs are challenging. Finally figured out PM, so I'm super new at this.)

Bumper Durability- db Killers...by far!

I am a loud and proud shooter. I have not gone to the same lengths that others have to silence my bows. But here is what I have done, with varying degrees of success.
-Flemish string
-rubber coated foot stirrup
-shrink wrapped the arrow retainer
-shoot a 410gr arrow
-use a laminate stock
Despite that, my neighbors can hear me shoot and yours probably will too. If silence is really that important, you didn't choose the right weapon. A vertical compound bow will almost always be quieter.

Search Wildcatter and SEW's posts for silencing tips, they have reported incredible success in dampening their bows.

Thanks, good tips! I'm working on some of those currently. I'll have to try the Flemish string... didn't know that made a difference. Just trying to get that the TWANG to more of a dead THUD. I haven't hunted with my Matrix much, haven't even shot at a animal yet. Took 2 deer last year with my Bowtech. So, I might stay with it in neighborhood. Thinking 355 might get them to drop faster (less distance)? Maybe not, guess it is just K.E. and razor blades.

I cut some 1/8" rubber material and put small pieces under my mounting screws on the stirrups and pieces cut to shape under the limb bolts and plastic washers. No more twang for my bows.
I do use Danny Miller's Baby Bumpers instead of REDs. Like them better and they are cheaper.

In addition to the bumpers the vixen being long limbed seems to respond to catwiskers better than the other shorter matrix bows. A cheap fix for 3 bucks it has quieted mine down a small amount . Personally l think the heavier arrow is the best bet.

Thanks guys. On my way. Heat shrink retainer clip - done. Plastic coat - purchased. Started building jig, like Boo shows. Then I'll add string whiskers. Like heavy arrows anyway, that's good. Working on material for isolating stirrup and stock bolts and hardware. Don't think I'll buy a new stock, but might use a thin layer of material between rail and stock. (Like a bedding job with rubber foam gasket.) I'm sure someone has tried that, but haven't found anything on forum. Still need to decide between dbKiller and Baby Bumpers. Thanks again for input.
