Anyone here own a Vortex Crossfire II 3-12x56 Hoghunter?

Post by Clover13 »

Wondering what size Butler Creek or Vortex caps fit the objective and eyepiece. Vortex shows the following *should* match...
Eyepiece: E-10
Objective: O-56

The O-56 is said to fit 62-66mm per the Vortex site, but when I micrometered the objective OD, I got 68 at the very front (1/4" section) and 70mm at the AO knob. Don't think that 0-56 will fit over the 70mm unless it really has some stretch so looking for some feedback from anyone who has this scope and used those caps. Thanks!

Correct, that verifies the measurements I posted:

Size 56: 62-66mm

But the question still remains, how does a cap that fits 62-66mm fit on a 70mm OD objective (measured with a micrometer)? :)

Because they stretch. like taking a bicycle inner tube and cutting it in half and stretching the opening over a tailpipe

Right but isn't the 62mm the low end of the stretch and the 66mm the high end of the stretch, hence the variable 62-66mm fit? If it fit 70mm, I'd imagine it would say 62-70mm.

Just spoke with Brain at Vortex, the O56 Defender cap will just fit on the scope..

I just ordered defender caps for my Vortex XBR off eBay for $19 each shipped. Also saw them for same shipped price on Focus Camera site.

And Q&A on Vortex's site:

One says yes it will fit, the other says it will not fit "perfectly" but be very snug
