Getting Interesting

Post by papabear1 »

Well I don't about anywhere else but the "RUT" is kicking in here in my neck of the woods, saw 3 bucks this morning a 6 point a spike and a 7 point that was actually pretty nice, but i'll give him another year, maybe he'll be the wall hanger next year !! (if he makes it through gun season and the road hunters/or I should say deer shooters, Real hunters don't go around and shoot deer out the window of their pickups, :x How is the rut doing your area. ?????

Call the slob hunters what they are, poachers and criminals.

Shooting at deer from the road is not only unethical and illegal, it's dangerous. Sadly, it occurs far too often. Every year I seem to come across it. As a matter of fact, just last night I heard someone joke about their retirement giving them plenty of time to drive around and shoot a nice buck from their truck. I know of law enforcement officers who b!$&@ about druggies and wife beaters and then the next day brag about riding around with their buddies, piling out of their trucks and shooting at bucks in fields, or who openly party hunt for bears every year while everyone else waits 6-8 years to draw a tag.

Friggin slobs. They have zero respect for others and zero respect for wildlife. And then they wonder why hunters are attacked by the media.

Done venting. Not seeing much rut sign here yet. But on a separate piece of land I walked Saturday about fifteen miles away I saw multiple rubs and scrapes that were freshly made.

Here in the deep south we are still a little early. I am catching bucks shadowing groups of does but they won't let them close yet. Soon...

I'm not seeing any movement during daylight hours, so it doesn't look like bucks are looking very hard in my area. Things should pick up in a week or so, then be pretty good for a couple weeks.

Things changed fast for me. Lots of new scrapes opened up. Saw an 8 pointer and a 10 pointer yesterday on an evening hunt an hour and a half before shooting time was up. The 8 rubbed every tree he passed it seemed and was constantly making blowing sounds like a dog sneezing. Also made some scrapes. The 10 was hanging out with the 8 like they were buddies. He rubbed one tree. I called them in to 60 yards but they didn't get any closer.

Saw two young bucks with lust in their eyes this morning following the trail of a doe that had walked by. The doe still had her fawn with her though, so I doubt she was ready and willing right yet.

Seeing new bucks showing up on trail cams, though mostly night pics.

You have to love this time of year.

I was watching a pretty nice 6 point (2 1/2 YO) bedded about 80 yards from me this morning ignoring my bleats, grunts and rattling entirely. After about 30 minutes a nice doe came over the ridge and walked almost up on him. He finally got up and she tried to smell his butt but he just walked down a ravine beside me leaving her standing there and she wandered by me a few minutes later. His hocks were solid black but he acted like he did not want a doe yet.
I did see a small 1 1/2 YO 4 point chasing a doe last Saturday.
