Coyotes got to my 13 pointer before I did.

I shot this buck Saturday morning about 8AM. I shot him with my Matrix 355 using Grim Reaper 100gr. Whitetail Special. He took off after the shot but I heard him crashing through the woods knowing I made a good shot. I always wait 30 minutes before I leave my treestand but 3 other deer appeared after waiting 20 minutes.
Not wanting to spook these deer I stayed put and waited another 40 minutes before they moved out of my immediate area. Below is a picture showing the carnage the coyotes did. I do not have any pigs around my property, thank the Lord.

I have more coyotes than I want on my land and I plan to do some trapping and calling to get as many as I can this winter.

First off Awesome Buck !
That is a first rate deer a real wall hanger.
Hey you lost some of the steaks but you will still make out ok.
Just chalk it up as a food chain fee the deer are their for all of nature to use.
You did the correct thing to wait to follow up the shot I like to give it an hour myself.
Enjoy the positive plenty of meals left on that deer.

Looks like you lost a few choice cuts of meat, but at least you recovered him and should be able to salvage some meat.

Dang coyotes showing their true nature and eat the ass first they sure act fast in your neck of the woods!! Ive taken one yote with archery gear this year and hope to shoot some more.

Nice buck. We have the same problem here Coyotes will get to the deer faster then we do . I don't wait the 30 minutes like you should if I want the deer in one piece or at all . I used to trap them until the voters took the traps away all except cage traps now I shoot everyone I can even with the crossbow which is fun they don't know what happened , Something to keep in mind the coyotes around here tend to pee on the meat they don't eat right away like marking their property . Just a thought .

Congratulations on a great buck. You still have the backstraps and the cape looks untouched up by the shoulders, so all is not lost.

Coyotes are way too numerous and what occurred with your buck is very common. Studies have shown coyotes will wipe out 50-80% of fawns. We need to bring their numbers down. And notice that we don't see as many fox around? Coyotes wipe them out as well.
