Coyotes are way too numerous and what occurred with your buck is very common. Studies have shown coyotes will wipe out 50-80% of fawns. We need to bring their numbers down. And notice that we don't see as many fox around? Coyotes wipe them out as well.
We did DNA thing on fawns per PGC and they now are finding the coyotes are no.1 killer like 70% and black bears next followed by bobcats....True on fox ...The doe seasons in wmu2g of pa need closed do to not seeing fawns..PGC blames bad habitat but they know its coyotes doing it ..
Very nice buck! Someone stated the fox population dwindles when yotes numbers grow. Researchers found a link between fewer fox and Lyme disease. Fox eat field mice which are a link in the tick life cycle that carries Lyme. Yotes don't eat them like the foxes do. Yet another reason to work on their numbers.
Congrats on a great buck... As mentioned you still have some good meat left for your freezer.. Sounds like you are also going to have some fun shooting coyotes after deer season...
Amazing buck! Pennsylvania's getting to be the same way. A friend shot a Booner last season at dusk and it was half stripped when he found it in the morning. This was within city limits of Pittsburgh!
