All the bag and block targets that I use have circular dots between 2" and 3" and using my 2-7 VXR BDC reticle I can center the circle and Firedot much more easily and quickly compared to a single crosshair.

In the field, hunting the BDC reticle and Firedot makes shot placement fast and simple on game animals.

To me the BDC reticle with a circle and dot combo is win, win and grin!

I might add that I am not a long range crossbow shooter and my normal target and hunting ranges are reasonable for this scope which is why it suits my hunting style perfectly.

Below is the Special Purpose Reticle with green Firedot. This reticle is found on the VXR Patrol and the Mark AR Mod-1. Like Norm said, the circle dot helps in target acquisition. I get an even 20-30-40 using the top-middle-bottom of the circle dot at 2.5x which is just the perfect amount of mag. The circle and the dot are very visible even in low light. As Newbie pointed out, you can see that this reticle offers some long range potential.

I also use the target turrets to dial in my yardages using any power of magnification the optic allows - another nice feature.

X2.
I have mine just about 2.5 mag. Perfect.
The circle to me really helps in target acquisition with those fast shots. I love it. The firedot is just an added bonus.

I'm just curious, does anyone know at what range leupold sets the paralax for these VX-R model scopes vrs the Crossbones model which is a Crossbow specific scope ?

The VX-R parallax is set at 100 yards. My 53 year old eyes have zero issue at any short crossbow range with the VX-R parallax set at 100.

As long as your eyes is centered or nearly centered in the scope, at archery ranges parallax is a non-issue.
Parallax is only an issue shooting at precise targets, using high magnification at long ranges.

True, and parallax isn't an issue at lower power. ( there is ZERO parallax at 1x) Scope company's don't start putting adjustable parallax on scopes until it's up close to a 10x on high end. You will be fine. Have fun! :D
