First crossbow, I joined the club 350 SE

Post by Triton Eric »

This will be my first crossbow. I found it new on ebay and thought it was a very good deal. As you may have guessed i'm still a little confused on some things. It came with 3 Easton Diablo arrows. I have noticed a lot of folks here have upgraded their arrows and there seems to be many lengths and weights being shot with this bow.

I would like to order at least a half dozen arrows, and i would also like some suggestions on which broadhead you all feel is best suited for this bow.

Please bare with me as i will be having more questions in the future.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, fI'll in your location in your profIle and we can help you.
Order a dozen, as most good shafts (Black Eagle Arrows are the only ones) are weight and spine matched within each dozen.

Yes they are, but the next 6 won't be matched with the first 6. When you're down to 2 or 3, what do you you do. Of course, not everyone is fussy.

Welcome aboard,

The 350 is a sweet shooter and balanced nicely.. Get yourself the REDS string stoppers or Danny Millers Baby Bumpers, also a stringer to maintain your brace height...

BTW: nice boat!!!!

I have been shooting factory fletched 18'" Black Eagle Executioners and factory fletched 18" Zombie Slayers out of mine and they shoot within an 1/8" of each other out to 50 yards. I also shoot some 17" double walled Spynal Taps from Jerry at SSA and they shoot dead on with the Zombie Slayers.
I shoot either 100 grain 2" cut Swackers or 100 grain G5 Montecs. They both shoot same POI as my field points.

....welcome aboard the Excalibur Express....I understand it makes local stops throughout KY....just keep asking away...that is how we all learned what we know today...and some of us (me) feel that even after 3 years aboard the Express we are nowhere near to being a "spert"....I might suggest you check out the lead thread "Arrow and bow combination of forum members" to get some ideas as to what many feel is nirvanah for them....

...nice to have you as part of the family...stick around and participate!

And the factory fletched Zombies are not spine indexed. Same as any factory fletched arrows you buy!

Yes Black Eagle Zombie Slayers are a bit more accurate than the Diablos... But I have used stock Diablos and custom Gold Tip arrows interchangeably on a 3D course with not much change to my POI out to 78 yds. The point is if you want to shoot the Diablos then shoot them. As long as you have either a "light" aluminum insert with a "heavy" point (150+ grain), or a "heavy" insert with a "light" point (100 grain) your arrows will fly "good enough for hunting ranges". The better arrows start to show improved grouping at 50+ yds. The main difference is a stiffer arrow, higher FOC, high helical fletchings, and more consistency from arrow to arrow.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like Black Eagle with brass inserts is the way i will go, and i see the reasoning for ordering a dozen.

Do you all have any preference on fletchings?

REDS and stringing aid are already on the way.

Thanks,
Eric

Blazers all the way. :D Also if you didn't order your REDS yet lots of people like Dany Miller's Bumpers better and they are cheaper.
