Hi folks has anyone used either the Bulldog 400 or the Matrix 380 with bolts heavier than 600 grains? If you have do you have any velocity data?
Thanks kindly

If the bows are achieving the 380-385fps then losing 1 fps for every 3gr of added arrow weight would put at about 300-305fps. If it's 1 fps per 5gr added arrow weight you're looking at 325-330fps.

When you go really heavy it is not as straight forward as taking a set amount of fps off for a certain amount of weight, it only works as a rough guide. As the weight increases the initial ratio of let's say 1 fps for every 3grains changes and may end up at 1 fps for every 8 grains.
I did have lots of data with different weights that I cannot find at the moment. However, from my testing I found that the forward angle risers like the M405 are slightly more efficient with heavy weight than the Bulldog riser.
I do have one test I did find which was done to see what the bows are capable of and nobody other than a dangerous game hunter in Africa would use this weight. However, it shows what the bows can do.
M405 with 1110.5 grain bolt - 248fps - 152KE
Bulldog with 1086.5 grain bolt - 234fps - 132KE

Hi guys thanks for the replys....Steven I'd already done some rough guess work and of course as you rightly point out the result is not linear....I would imagine with enough real data it wouldnt be hard to work out the bell curve for different weights and create a calculator. Thanks for the info its exactly what I was looking for as it wilI give me something to work back from.

Why??
Did I miss the part where they brought back Woolly Mammoths already??
Wondering,
Nog - Happy with 400 grains for 400 lb Critters...
