1st crossbow bird

Post by JeffTWilliams »

The wife & kids were good enough to get me my 1st crossbow,an Excal Grizz, for Christmas. With deer season being over by then,I had to wait 'til Spring Turkey to break her in right.

After getting out several times and having some close calls,I finally got one this morning right after he flew down.As he gobbled and strutted,I had to wait for him to clear some blowdowns and when he stepped out,at 20 yds. in full strut,I let him have it.He flew off and I found him just above the creek about 150-200yds from where I hit him.

I'm diggin' this Excaliber! :D

Thanks fellas ! I've killed a lot of birds with a gun but this was really neat.I was worried I wouldn't find him,it's pretty thick down near the creek bottom, but I spotted him laying in a patch of grass on a hillside. He'll go good in the crock pot and I'll use his wing feathers for arrow fletch...like I always do.

Congrats. Nothing beats getting one with an arrow. The shotgun kills don't do it for me anymore... :!

Congrats.....once you twap one with the crossbow the gun wont do . Lol lm curious as to what broadhead your using that the bugger went that far? Im impressed that you found him. The extreem broad heads always work good for me even on a not so perfect hit. Big schwackers, foc ,and spitfire maxx. Some of us use the head chopper kind . Them little 1 1/8 fixed blades just dont do enough damage to my liking .yes they work but why look for a turkey when you can kill him in ten feet. Congrats!

Longbow Joe,I used a 125 gr. 4blade Magnus Stinger.Yeah,I've considered a mechanical with a bigger cut, and probably will from now on for turkeys, but used the Stingers because that's what I had.I use the same head for deer hunting with my recurves.

Yeah,I feel lucky to have found him as it's pretty thick down in that bottom, took me about a 1/2 hour to find him, but he was laying in a small patch of grass on a hillside and wasn't hard to spot.

Thanks for your support,everybody !

I was inpressed with my little vixen this year only 255 fps. I would not use a big expandable on a deer with it l feel it just dont have the mojo. The big spitfire maxx went thru my gobbler and kept going these excalibur bows still continue to impress me! Even the little vixen is awsome.again awsome job.

Yeah,Joe,I would of liked a flatter shooting rig,but here in the Peoples' Republic of New York, our " all knowing" Emperor Cuomo won't let us use a more than 200# crossbow.
