Bipod Advice

Post by IronNoggin »

Hi Folks - need a little advise for a good buddy here...

He hunts with a M 380, and hunts open prairie a LOT!
That requires long distance belly crawls, and pretty much most shots are taken from prone.
He called today asking what I might know about bipods, but unfortunately my knowledge is basically nada on the subject (I shoot chiefly from a stand or on my hind legs).

So, what he is seeking is a bipod that is suitable for prone shooting (6 - 9 inches?? More? Less?), has an attachment at the bottom of the bipod so he can attach his sling as per normal position, and a bipod that swivels at the connection point to allow for leveling of the bow on sloping terrain.

I figure at least a few of the fine folks here have had some experience with this type of set-up, and so am hoping we can count on your sage advise to help once again!

Many Thanks in advance! And best of luck to all this fall!! :D

Cheers,
Nog

Good afternoon Nog
I am in no way an expert on this subject but I have tried different bipod son my BD400 and settled on the sportster by Blackhawk. It is available in 6-9" or 9-13" whichever would fit your buddies needs best. It attaches to the swivel stud and as a sling stud on the bipod itself. It also has a lockable tilt feature which I've found very useful. They can be purchased at numerous sporting goods or even stores such as Walmart. I hope this helps.

Several on eBay. I have one that looks like this and does well on my front stud on my Excaliburs.

I also run a Harris on my rifle. My suggestion is to go on YouTube and search 'Sniper 101...bipods'. This guy is a U.S. military sniper trainer and an absolute wealth of knowledge. He will cover what to look for and what to avoid.
