Advice/Feedback on 2 crossbows I am thinking of buying. Which one?

Post by thelopeztribe »

Maybe this is a better forum to post in? I had this in the Trading post, but that may not be the right forum.

Howdy folks, I am new to crossbows and have narrowed my selection to 2 crossbows.

I am debating which of 2 crossbows to purchase and would like some feedback. The difference in price is Option 1 is about $100 less. Does it being 25# lighter draw make a difference or will that matter? I ask because I am thinking the money saved can be used for other accessories, etc. My concern though is the 175# vs. 200# and the difference in FPS. Being new, though it could be negliglible to me.

Any advice/direction would be appreciated.

Option 1
* Pre-owned, Excalibur Exocet. 175# Draw. New limbs with old limbs included. Scope, 3 pile driver bolts, 6 broadheads, new string. Bow has a UHG scope. REDs, additional arrow heads

Option 2
* New 2018 Matrix grizzly 305 black shadow package with deadzone scope. Integrated R.E.D.S. 200# Draw.

Welcome to the forum
You can’t go wrong with either one...the Exocet is an older model with the wider limbs but basically damn near bullet proof.
The Grizzly has the narrower limbs and a little bit more speed. Don’t worry about cocking it because it has a shorter draw length. Either one will kill out to forty and beyond.
If it were my money I would go for the Grizzly.

On the Trading Post here there is a Vortex package for sale. The seller is a very good person, and that is a very good deal on a great all around model. JMHO.
Good luck deciding.

@xcaliber - Thanks. Yes I had been in touch with him but I didn't want to low ball him as my wife wants it to stay within a certain budget. :) I guess I could always make an offer and see what happens.

Of the two you mentioned the Grizzly would be my choice.

@xcaliber - Is that because it is newer? Or can you tell me why you would go that way? Being new, I was just thinking I could use the money I save toward a better scope or more arrows, etc.

@georgiaboy - same questions as I asked Xcaliber, what is the thought for the grizzly? Just because it is a tad faster? The question I struggling with if the little bit of speed doesn't gain me that much, I could use the $100 for other accessories.

It is much narrower which makes it easier to handle in stands.

Just a thought..... The best "Bargain" on the crossbow market right now is a Bowtech/Stryker Offspring. They can be had new online for less than 4 bills. That's the whole kit, scope, arrows, rope cocker ,quiver. They are a joint venture between Excalibur and Bowtech. They are a compound bow, but they are fast and easy to cock. I know its not an Excaliibur, exactly, but its a nice bow that a bargain. They have been discontinued, but Danny Miller can keep you runnin' Me thinks. Again, just a thought.

Money matters to me. I would get the less expensive crossbow and use the difference to buy better optics or more bolts and broadheads. The older model will do everything the Grizzly will do if you don't mind a few inches of extra width. Same lifetime warranty.

It looks like this has cams though? Everything I saw was more than the 4 bils....:)
