I got some screws loose...
Insert your favorite funny here.
Two weeks ago with my Matrix I took a free handed shot at the end of my self-imposed range limit at a fairly small doe. I watched as the Lumenok appeared to dip just under the rib cage. I figured, no big deal. It was a lengthy shot free handed with fixed blade broadheads. The doe did drop on the shot, so I wasn't sure until I went downrange whether it ducked into it. I must have just barely missed it.
Last week I took my Micro and as I was walking out I almost tripped over a couple deer. One offered me a broadsided shot at about the same distance. I figured a miss was the worst that could happen and I wasn't disappointed. But, I was quite surprised to see the Lumenok nosedive into the dirt way before the target.
Today I finally got time to dig into matters and I found the scope base had loose screws on both bows. I wasn't too surprised to find a loose screw on the Matrix since its fairly new. But I was a bit surprised to find more than one loose on the Micro. All screws have been tightened down with a dab of loctite.
Fortunately for me, the misses were during my tune up season while shooting at doe and neither resulted in a bad hit.
As other have said, I've learned that you really do need to check the screws periodically.

"I figured a miss was the worse that could happen." Really? Or a gut shot, or big slice on a leg, etc. Nothing like "tuning up" on live animals.
We have all done things that we aren't proud of. Maybe you could reword some of that content.

Re: I got some screws loose...
I shoot arrows with precision all summer.
In September I ramp it up and shoot as often as possible.
In the golden season of harvest when a deer comes in I don't ever wonder if my arrow will hit where I aim.
If I miss then it's not my bow!!!

Strange that both bows would have the same problem at the same time. Sounds like gremlins to me.
I've been chasing my tail on an accuracy issue lately myself. Checked all my screws, but the only loose one is in my head, apparently. My Micro 335 seems fine, but my Matrix 330 has thrown some random wide shots. Driving me crazy.
Glad you sorted it out! Good luck on the next hunt.

Usually the saying " fling arrows" makes me cringe.
I understand your are practicing for hunting.
But more often than not , I've seen that saying used for a hunting conversation.
Like 15 shots at antelope before a kill. Seriously! ?
Dude admited to flinging arrows at animals out to 90 yrds, repeatably.
Or yeah I didn't get an elk this yr. But I shot 3. Had 8 shots. Wth.!?
None of this is crossbow but you get the idea.
Flinging arows isn't a good thing , unless it's practicing for a hunt. Lol

Re: I got some screws loose...
Who am I to judge anyone, I shoot all year long whenever possible. But I step it up come July on to make sure I’m ready for whatever the Lord gives me.
Glad you got your equipment figured out, and good luck on your next hunt!

Re: I got some screws loose...
In my opinion “flinging” arrows during the summer is a hellova lot better than waiting until 1-2 weeks before season to try and remember where you stored your bow after the last season.

Re: I got some screws loose...
Could he get away with saying "slinging arrows" instead? While it would have the same cringeworthy devil-may-care connotation, wouldn't he get points for invoking the great existential monologue from Shakespeare's "Macbeth", "To be, or not to be"? While on the one hand he may be suggesting that he has a loose and carefree trigger finger, he would also point to a deeper quandary about how he deals with life's struggles, the "slings and arrows of outrageous Fortune". It seems to me that keeping the heft of Shakespeare in mind may be a good idea while toting lethal force. Just my editorial two cents.elkaholic wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:43 amUsually the saying " fling arrows" makes me cringe.

Now I'm lost ! Lol
Re: I got some screws loose...
Ignore me. I couldn't resist an opportunity to be oblique. As you were. Actually, I had the reference wrong anyway. It's from Hamlet, not Macbeth.
"To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them."
Re: I got some screws loose...
There are many terms in the hunting industry that rub people the wrong way.
Terms like, "smoke one" "dropped a..." "Ventilated"
My wife hates when I say "I took a...-insert animal here-".
I personally think the term "Harvested" is rediculous.
Calling your bow or gun a "tool" versus a "weapon". What do you need a weapon for?? Unless the deer it throwing knives at you... In that case shoot the damned thing!
Often these terms are regional, and what is said in one area, is not said in another. Nothing wrong with "Flinging arrows" I hear it all the time. Same as "fling some lead around" same as "just sent some lead down range" doesn't mean lead was literally flying in all directions. Who cares? When I'm fishing I often "fling the bling!" I have a shirt that says just that.
Point is, it would be fairly logically thought to go through ones head after a miss due to equipment failure. Maybe the OP could have worded it better, but to think a miss might happen in the fraction of a second offered up by the deer is only human nature.
This molehill is officially a mountain. I'm calling my arrows "pointy-flying-death-sticks" from now on. PFDS for short.
DuckHunt, glad you got it figured out and no deer where harmed in the process!

Wow! I see hunting is slow for others as well.
I intended harm, but fortunately for the deer and I Murphy's Law was in full effect.
