Hunting Black Bear in Arkansas?

Post by AJ01 »

I gotta ask, Anyone on here ever hunt Black Bear in Arkansas? If so, what part of the state, and how was it? I've been looking at somewhere around Mena. As for out of state hunters tags are pretty easy to get from what I've seen online.
Not a whole bunch of info out there that I can find.
Any input??

Thanks
AJ

I hunt ducks annually in Arkansas and have family there, but have never seen a bear there. Most bear are harvested in the Northwest third of the state. Mena would fall in that region. I'm from the East Central part and the number harvested in that region is in the single digits annually. I'd recommend checking out the agfc.com web page to hone in on where you'll have the best chances for success.

Don’t rule out just over the State Line in Oklahoma.

Bill, I've looked at Oklahoma too! I've actually seen some pretty impressive bears come out of your state!
I'm sure I'll either end up in Arkansas or Oklahoma. I like both of them and neither is very far from me in NE Texas.

Thanks for the hint!

Yes Sir...I got a buddy that Duck hunts around Stuttgart, if I spelled that correctly. He likes Arkansas a lot too!
I've looked at agfc pages and it seems the quotas change from one region to another pretty drastically. Last I looked the Mena, Rich Mountain area was the most populated.
I will give them agfc.com a "good going over" to be sure.
Thanks for the "heads up"!!
