Predator Camo....What pattern?

Post by Sandman »

Can anyone help me out? I am looking at buying some PC as a late b-day present for myself but I am not too sure which camo pattern will work the best. I hunt mainly here in South Western Ontario from Oct 1 - Dec 31. I cant afford anymore than one set so I want to make sure I get the best possible. I received a catalog from a Canadian distributor http://www.predatorcamocanada.com/ and I have narrowed it down to 1) Fall Brown or 2) Fall Grey.

Anyone use this product? If so what pattern works the best for you?

Thanks in advance~!

camo

Hey sandman:

Seems to me you can't go wrong with either one.
I did notice that a guy hunting with the grey coloured camo in a tree stand
by where I hunt seemed to blend in a bit better than the one with brownish camo. The grey camo dude was almost invisible up in the tree.
However the other guy was more noticeable. All of my camo is Advantage Timber by Real tree. It is a brownish camo. My Exomag is the same colour as well. That said, the next one will be grey camo. I believe this to be the best in Southern ON.

Robin,

I have the same catalogue and price list. You might want to contact Heights Archery, they are also in Canada but have much better prices. ie the 6 pocket pants and archer's jacket are $65 each canadian. I believe the price list you have from PredatorCamoCanada listed them at $82 each last year!!! The higher priced items have even more savings!!! If you're only getting one set for now, get them big enough so you can wear them over your warm clothing in the late season.

http://www.archerybymail.com The website is out of date (and lists US prices) so send them an email ron@archerybymail.com or phone them for a price. I was very happy with the service I got from them last year.

I have the fall Grey right now but I might pick up a pair of fall Brown for the early season. It's nice stuff. Ask Woody!!!! I'll send you another link later tonight!!!

Do you want a good test, squint a lot and look at both coverall patterns you posted above, which one looks less like a human outline!!!!!!

Both are fine patterns. you cant go wrong either way.

I opt of the Fall Brown to wear all of archery seaosn although the Fall Gray is probably better for being skylined in later season..

Predator is my choice for fall hunting. For spring turkeys I switch to one of the Advantage patterns.

OK Sandman, it's later tonight and as promissed... read this: http://whitetail.com/camo1.html

I have the warp knit insulated parka and I can't say enough nice things about it. It's very warm, very quiet and breaks up my outline in the tree stand great. I have a picture of me in my stand somewhere from last December, I'll try and find it.

A hunting buddy of mine who is an expert scouter, and always gets a nice buck was telling me about deer behaviour last fall. This lad should be a paid guide or have his own hunting show, I've learned lots from him. He was saying it was fine to walk around and make noise getting to your stand in the early morning dark hours if you walked like a deer. The other deer would hear you but would not be spooked thinking you were another deer walking around. He then said the dead giveaway was the sound of your hunting jacket rubbing against brush "like this" and he rubbed his glove across my jacket. He had a surprised look on his face when there was no sound and then said "well, not like your jacket"

This is the jacket.

For budget reasons I went with the matching 6 pocket pants, the bibs were a little pricey after I bought tons of hunting gear last season. I was thinking of getting the bibs this season. As I said earlier, I think I'll also try some fall brown in an archer's jacket and pants for early season.

If you like this type of camo, another option you might want to also take a look at is ASAT camo. Spot the ASAT camo guy in each picture...

fall

I like the fall brown myself. I have a few pair of pants and shirts in fall brown and it really disappears in the woods. Another camo I started using here is the "true spec" USMC digital woodland camo. It disappears in the eary fall through spring timber here.I also can buy mil spec made BDU pants and shirts for around $25 each or less,Tshirts from $6 and boonie/ball style hats to $6. These also seem to be far` better` made and longer lasting than the camo I get from walmart and basspro for as much as $39 fro a pair of pants or shirt. may not look as good up North thought as it does in the south. Here is a link of pictures. http://www.threatconoutfitters.com/wst_page6.html

Terry thanks for that link.I like it....whatever a guy gets I think a good thing to get into the habit of doing is mixing patterns...use a different pant than you do a top. it breaks you up even more..no matter what kind you use this is a great tip....

Terry,

That military stuff looks really good for areas that still have a lot of green or spring turkey hunting. Did you buy your stuff from this web site? Do they ship to the Great White North? Eh?

I bought most of my truespec digital camo here in town at the military surplus store. The digital camo has a very high demand right now so I always check to see if it is in stock if I am ordering online. I have not ordered from that site but their prices are very good. I have also stuck to buying the true spec brand since it is full mil spec even though it is about $5 more per pants or jacket. The camo does very good here during the fall also it blends in great with tall praire grass and brush as well as in a tree stand. When it gets about Dec and every thing looks dead I switch over to the fall brown Predator camo. I hardly ever get spotted by deer I think they just see movement best.
