Full moon = very low tide = easy clam digging.
Unfortunately I'm nowhere near the ocean at the moment.

Ahhh...a little more thinking on my part and I would have figured that out. I was thinking along the lines of that not all areas experience significantly different tide levels during a spring tide (but obviously some do, perhaps especially in some areas known for clam digging).

The moon's gravitational pull is what affects the tides the most. During the new moon and the full moon the earth, moon and sun are lined up and the combined gravitational pull of the moon and the sun makes for higher (and lower) tides. Basically there is more pull on the oceans twice a month.
