NEW CROSSBOW SHOOTER! setup and BOLTS!!! -help????
hey guys. i know this is an excalibur forum, but i think it is the only crossbow forum around! i just bought a ten point titan tl-4. it has a 3 power 32mm three reticle scope. i got the accudraw 50 with it, but i find it fairly easy to pull back by hand. i think i will remove the draw mechanism. it looks like it could possibly make some noise when changing positions -especially with a heavier jacket on. also, i like stealth, light weight equipment.
anyway, my primary concern is my bolt setup. i have never been a big fan of aluminum, so i bought 9 beman thunderbolts with half-moon knocks. the folks at ten point like the aluminums with the flat knock. as for me, i have barely shot it, but the thunderbolts stack up!!! i can not believe i did not split one. so i have no problems with them as of yet. ten point recomends mechanicals and i have never had good luck with those out of my compound bows. i bought 100grain razor caps instead. should i need to worry about shooting the broadheads into a block target and tuning them? i spun them on my finger tip and they seem balanced. -what do you guys think of the setup and my broadhead concerns? thanks for helping a newbie!

i did a broadhead search and it looks like a lot of guys like the slick tricks. guys here say they fly just fly field tips. any thoughts? also, where do i buy them? i went to the slick tricks website, but there is no dealer list. also, i like the speed of 100 grain so do i get the 1" or the 1-1/8" 100's?

Accudraw
I had a 10point last season with an accudraw. I worried about the noise also so I started putting a large rubberband around the hooks once I had it cocked. The band eliminated the risk of noise. A quick, cheap fix. As to broadheads I shot muzzy 3 blade 100's in mine and they worked great. I still think you need to sight in using broadheads, dont trust that they will fly just like field points.
I grew up and still hunt near where Ten Point Crossbows are made in Suffield, this was my pro shop for many years.
I have heard numerous converstaions about the 1/2 moon knock vs flat nock discussion there and the difference in crossbows. From what I have heard essentially excalibur as well as ten point endorse flat nocks because of the release type from above and this combination works best with flat nocks because it allows the string to travel laterally along the nock as it contacts the rail shortly after release. Using a 1/2 moon type nock does not allow the string to pas dwnward without picking up the front of the shaft(supposedly). I have also heard that another detrimental effect is if the arrow is put in wrong the string will ride up under the arrow and have a dry fire effect, possibly damaging the bow.
Horton and others endorse the 1/2 moon because they differ in release design.
