uncocking crossbow....

Post by TNhunterKMC »

This is one of the only things that made the trip to the TN Deer and Turkey Expo worth it. I was shown a method to uncock your crossbow using the rope cocking aid. I've searched this site looking for posts about uncocking this way and haven't been able to find it mentioned anywhere - however it might have originated here. I made a Quicktime video of it. I know the 2 recommended methods are to shoot it to uncock or to uncock by hand manually. However I'm not about to uncock my Exocet 200 manually. And I don't really care to shoot a bolt every time. This method seems to work out great and I can't find a reason why it isn't safe. Enjoy and happy and safe uncocking! BTW - I appreciate your critiques of this method regarding its safety, ease of use, etc.

Loos ok to me, but I do not have any trouble uncocking my 175 Exocet by hand. Good job keep the ideas comin.

I can't quite figure out how he does it in detail. I think I would rather have two hands holding the string though.

A.W. all he is doing when he go's to unload, is puts the string cocker back on, pulls one side up bringing the rope cocking handle against the hook on one side, with his right hand and arm pulls it up tight then a little more and releases trigger and slowly lets it down. Notice he is a big man, and has the rope cocker shortened too the hooks when ready to cock.

Looks like a good a safe way if you be on the tall side.... :D

I have shortened up my string cocker, just by tying a knot in it on one side. I makes it easier for me to use.

I uncock in the same manner but I hold the two handles in one hand and make sure that I pull up until there is no load on the trigger. Then I pull the triger with the other hand and let it down.

I can uncock my Exocet 200 by hand, but once the string pulled through my fingers. I was not really a dry fire, because the it sort of fired my fingers. I'm sure that there was more load on the string with my fingers than there would be with a bolt. It hurt for a few days, and since then, I always use the cocker to release.
