Congratulations Wabi,

Glad to hear your son held it together. My brother's first deer was shot almost head on, so the bullet hit some gut. My dad showed him how to open up the deer and then told him to pull out the vitals and guts. He said "No way! That thing stinks!" My dad explained to him that maybe he should have waited for a better shot oppertunity and he shot the deer so he was helping out. He did, reluctantly.

I don't think he has shot one in the guts since. Must have learned his lesson.

Gave my son lesson #2 on shooting deer and caring for the kill last night. We drove over to my friend's (who processes deer) shop last night and we converted her to prime cuts, burger, and plenty of jerky meat. I now have a batch of the jerky cuts marinating in mesquite jerky seasoning in the refrigerator. Hopefully by tonight they will be ready to put in Excalibur #2 (my Excalibur brand dehydrator  ). And I did leave a package of tenderloins out of the freezer so we can have a good meal this evening, too.
