Well, since no one else seems to want them, I'll take 'em!

Great Buck!

I had similar experience with mech broadheads and will never use them again. Head still had the little rubber band around it. Fool me once, shame on me .................

That is a great buck. Even though the meat was lost, you did everything under your control to recover that deer.

As for mechanical broadheads, I gave up on them simply of rth erisk factor. I know the odds are low but what if the one BH that malfunctions is on the arrow that you are shooting? Not worth it to me.

I am glad you found him man what a buck. To bad you lost the meat. I was actually thinking if I ever used mechanicals I would use a Rage. But since hearing your story I will stick to fixed heads. I tried some Rocket mechanicals this fall to see how they performed and man was I disapointed with them. They were built so cheap that after each shot at my target they were wrecked I mean totally destroyed. Did not want to risk that on a animal. Once again nice buck and congtrats to you.

Well done on the recovery!!! Hats off to you for sure. Great buck too!!

Fixed blades only, please!!! There's plenty of proven models, take your pick.

I too have had mechanicals fail one was a jackhammer that was shot at a quartering away angle. When the blades entered the hide and began to open it caused the front of the arrow to slow down and the rear of the arrow did not slow down causing the rear of the arrow to go forward resulting in a gut shot. The other was a spitfire that had frozen shut, there was a wet snow falling early afternoon and as it got later the temp dropped and anything that was wet had froze. I made a decent shot lung and liver but there was little blood then no blood, after I got a bunch of guys together we did a grid search, after 5 hours of searching we finally stumbled on him over 400 yrds from where he was hit. Gutting and skinning confirmed that the head had not opened. So needless to say I do not recommend mechanicals especially this time of year with wet snow and freezing temps.

I was told they recalled some of the Rage

"Field Logic has discovered a defect in the Rage 3-Blade broadheads. The blades do not always fully
deploy on product shipped between March 6th and May 31st of 2007.
We feel the defect may create performance issues of non-deployment or partial deployment. For this
reason we need to replace ALL Rage 3-blade heads and replacement blades. Below is an image that
details the difference between good and bad heads. If you are unsure simply send them back to us at:
Rage Recall, 1230 Poplar Ave., Superior, Wisconsin, 54880."

Anyone who is running Rage should take a look and make sure they have one of the newer ones.

Iappreciate the info on the recall of the 3 Blade Rage. I purchased my 2 Blade Rage that malfunctioned in early summer of 2008. All I can say, is the only deer I shot with the 2 Blade Rage did not open. I had to spend over 20 hours tracking the deer to recover antlers and all of the meat was lost to vultures and what was left was spoiled after 3 days. I am confident if the 2 Blade Rage opens, it does and excellent job. When I practiced with the target point that was provided in the Rage 2 Blade Pack, they flew like field tips and were very accurate.

I have had a forum member request the 2 packages of Rage Broadhead I have and I am mailing to him. All I can say is I will never use Rage again, it's not work the risk. For those of you who do use them, your gambling more than you may realize.
