I have had over 14 different beagles in my life and they are a great family dog. I found that female beagles are easier to train and are also better hunters. They will run any animal you want them to chase, cottontails, snowshoes (prefer not these if you want a deer dog, share too much of the same country), jack rabbits, fox, wolf, deer and even bear. They are a very smart animal, but they are also stubborn. If you put in the time and are more stubborn then them, you will be ok.wabi wrote:She looks like a fine addition to the family.
Beagles can be a bit "hard headed", but they are still one of my favorite breeds. Great family dog, and also natural hunters.
Good luck with the pup, she looks great.

Thanks guys, she is turning in to a real sweetheart of a dog. I have to say the kids are really doing their part, they take her out to Pee so often she has not had a chance to mess in the house. As soon as she wakes up she goes to the back door and waits for her leash, then does her business the second she hits the ground. I have to be honest, I was concerned about that part, the whole house training thing, so far so good.
She is only up once a night now, and goes calmly back to her kennel once back inside the house at night. During the day she has a bed in the living room that I picked up, sleeps with all 4 legs straight in the air.
Most importantly my wife has really taken to her, which is important because she does all the work.
A hunter? Certainly not yet. I set her between two squirrels and a coon this afternoon, she didn't bat an eye at any of them, just wanted to chew on my shoelaces. OK, a bit young yet.. She carries around a stuffed rabbit that one of my daughters donated, that was pretty cool to watch too.
I just may have her in top shape for next rabbit season.
Life is way more fun with a dog in the house!

Funny you should ask Norm.. I have read a lot about the benifits of having a pet rabbit for training, so I have been looking for one. Yours is a handsome bugger, same color as your truck, your car.. I am seeing a pattern here.
I will get more pictures soon Vix, I am still trying to shake the thoughts of deer from head. And it was good to see you again today! Ben too.
