I`m thinking the real reason he had it mounted that way is because it is easier to take apart and mount on his next does head .
But the pictures do not do the rack justice . It is BIG !!!

tim is there any chance you could take a picture of the mount from the front so i can see how that cover mated up with the rack bases. in the pictures at the web site there is some spacing where the cover meets the antler base and i want mine not to have those spaces. i see where you have to cut out that cover to come close to the antler bases was it hard to do right?

I'll go take that picture for you. I think there might be small gapping.

The fit depends 100% on how well and carefully you cut the cover. BUT, a neat fix for any small gaps is to glue a wrap of leather (like a shoe lace) or a hemp cord or something in a fine twist or braid around the bases to cover the gap - sort of like putting baseboard trim on the wall at the floor.

Just a side comment, I believe that if you mount with the antlers still attached to the skull (hidden under the cap) it's still considered legal for scoring. Some kits require that you actually remove the antlers and attach them to a replica skull - looks cool, but not legal for official scoring. Just in case it matters to anyone....

BTW, Tim found that the size of the cap could have been bigger. The cap is probably sized for an average N. American deer, but this Ontario buck was on the large side and pretty much maxed the cap - it's quite flexible so it can be manipulated a bit for fit. If we ever had the opportunity to mount another rack of this skull and base size we'd request one of the larger caps.

.......the desk provides ample space for Tim And Monica's home and office chores. They've chosen a classic faux-stucco wall treatment in a stunning ruffed grouse beige, which is Lauren Bijou colour for 2010. Offset to the left, is a notable red on white floral tribute to "The Power of Women in Camo", of which Monica has been a proud and influential member since she was in her teens a few years ago. The easy curve of the Julianne crown moulding draws the eye upwards, to where Tim has cleverly postioned an impressive whitetail rack casting hauntingly intricate shadow branches above. The room fairly exudes the dew of dawns enchantment.

A daring feat rarely attempted by even the most apres-guarde designers is carried to perfection by these inspired partners. We hope to see more of their creations very soon......

Oh my goodness, Maple! I've got tears rolling down my cheeks!!!!!!!!

You should see that room right now..... If I had enough guts I'd take a picture, but I'm not that brave. My 4 yr old has toys everywhere - "strategically" placed Legos from various building projects make walking through the room scarier than climbing 25' up in a tree, the markers and colouring books must always be within reach, add a dog bed, some dog toys, piles of books, a newpaper, tinsel that migrates from the tree to every room in the house, little boy hand prints and dog nose prints on the windows (snool).... School starts again next week!
