Normally when you sneak a look at your present, its hard to show a look of surprise when you open it. But a knife like that would have to give you a smile from ear to ear every time you see it 8)

Yes . . .a grand story here . . .I'll be able to share it one day without crying, I hope. Let's just suffice it to say, the wife wasn't ever suppose to see the knife . . .

Well . . .I've been dying for one of DaGriz's knives. But, being unemployed, I've been holding off. I do little jobs here and there and make $20 or so. I've been stashing as much of this cash as possible for two years.

DaGriz told me he was having to stop making the knives. So, I told him about my stash and he emailed me a few knives with pictures to pick from. I told him which one and he said he would mail it out and I could send him the money.

Let me tell ya . . .the customer service department at DaGriz Knives, Inc. is awesome. That conversation was on a Wednesday and on Saturday, the knife is at my door.

Only one problem . . .the same Saturday I am at Mercer University with my Daughters doing a college tour. My wife stayed at home because she had a work related conference to attend.

Here's where I need to add some background information. About four years ago, my loving wife decided to get me a custom knife for Christmas. My brother-n-law gave her the number to a guy he knows. She calls him and orders me a "hunting knife". That Christmas I get the present and low and behold, the blade is 12 inches long. I could definitely hunt with it(who needs a bow or gun), it was a thing of beauty, but, it wasn't going to "fit" me. So, I had her to send it back. He didn't have any blades that were the "right" size and I ended up with a great little pocket knife. So, she is no fool when it comes to custom knives and the cost.

Well back to Saturday, my wife gets home from her conference and there is the package. I get a phone call immediately about the knife. She is the only one working and I might add, the budget is way too tight for purchasing a quality custom knife. She freaks out and demands that I send it back. I told her that it's an awesome knife and it would be a great gift. I begged her to keep it and just give it to me at some point. She asked, "how in the world did you plan to pay for this" . . .I told her about the stash.

She figures the only occasion that is coming up that is deserving of that knife is my 50th birthday in March. I however, think our 21st anniversary on 9/15 is a much more deserving occasion.

I forget all the details due to stress . . .but, anyway, my stash is gone and she has the knife designated as a birthday gift. As long as she doesn't change her hiding place, then I can admire it now and then and have a reason to grow older. :D

I do have an awesome wife and would NOT trade her for nothing. Them are some very wise words papa bear1.
