The Virginia Wildlife guys are blaming the low numbers on the winter of 2010. The kill numbers were down 30% from the prior year in the area I hunt. They are expecting a rebound of kills this year due to the good acron crop of last year . . .which is another reason the kills were down last year. The more food that is available, the less a deer has to travel to get all they want.
Anyway . . .on the way back from Virginia, I saw several deer on the side of I-75 and I-85 mainly in South Carolina, but, there were some in North Carolina too. That means the does are being chased!!
It's about to happen . . .heck, it is happening.
I'll get out in the Ga. woods next week . . .I hope.

Re: Where are the deer
Here in PA, The PGC always has an answer foe the deer numbers. If you shoot alot of deer in 1 year there must be alot of deer around, so give out more tags next year. If you shoot low numbers one year, there must be alot of deer left, so give out more tags next year. It is never that the deer population is down. I remember years ago if you had a bad winter, the next years doe tags were given out accordingly. Does not happen anymore. There are lots of deer around if you listen to them. The problem is I can't find them anymore, But like the PGC says, I am probably not hunting hard enough or going deep enough into the woods.
